Android Central Question

I did the latest system update and since then, I can barely hear callers. Here's what I tried:

- all volume sliders are up
- nothing in the microphone
- all other sounds work great
- clear phone app cache
- clear phone cache
- rebooted a few times
- rebooted into safe mode (made no difference)

It's a S8 Rev1.0 Android V9, Kernel 4.4.153

Make sure the phone speakers and microphone are clear from dirt or lint build up
If that's ok can either try flash the firmware again or need to have it checked at repair center

Welcome to Android Central! When you say you cleared the phone cache, do you mean you wiped the system cache partition?

Have you tried an earphone? Is it better that way?

Do you work near construction? (The iron filings coming from holes drilled in steel beams at a construction site load up speakers to the point that they appear to be shot. [I had a whole fleet of them at one site that I got paid for "cleaning" every couple of weeks each. They went from "absolutely no sound at all" to "turn the volume down".])

Sorry, I thought I was logged in.

  • I did check for dirt in the microphone
  • I did clear the system cache and the phone app.
  • Bluetooth and speakerphone works great.
  • I'm not around construction

As I said, everything was fine until I did the last software upgrade. Nothing in the hardware or any apps changed. One minute it worked, then it didn't. I searched for ways to fix it and found several posts with the same problem. I tried all the recommendations but they didn't work.

The only thing I haven't done is a factory reset; I know it won't wipe anything but I still hesitate at it. I thought maybe there was something else.

Yeah at this point u tried all the others , do the factory reset .

A factory data reset will wipe all of the local data (except for data that's on an SD card). If you have the data backed up or synced, much if not all of it can be restored or synced back after the reset, but you need to make sure the data that's important to you is in fact backed up or synced.

Just so you know, the volume came back for awhile without a factory reset. But then it disappeared again. By then though, I got a new S10+ for Christmas. Thank you again!
