Cant sign into Gmail or YouTube on nexus 7.

I factory reset my nexus three times and I have reset my router as well and its still not letting me sign in.
Im rooted and still running 4.1.1

When you say it's not letting you sign in, what exactly is happening? No sign in screen, the progress circle just keeps circling, it gives you an error message?

I noticed that the WiFi indicator is working, but grey. I believe this means you have internet access, but not to Google services. This information doesn?t solve your problem, but it might explain why you can't connect to these Google services. Can you get to the Play Store?
You may want to try deleting your Google account from the N7, and then add it back in again.

When I go the the play store I get redirected to gmail to sign in. I made a new gmail to sign in with but that doesn't even work.

yea, the grey wifi icon indicates that you aren't connected to Google services. It could be having a hiccup in your particular corner of the world, or there could be a problem. Maybe try a factory reset and see what that does.

Is there anything I can do to connect to google services? I also noticed that when I to try to update to 4.2.2 it says Last checked for update on 12/31/1969 and when clicking Check now it does nothing.

Gray wifi icon can also mean that wireless network (wifi) is connected, but no Internet connection is present. As someone who works in tech support, I realize a LOT of people don't understand the difference ("No, my Internet is working, it says 'signal strength excellent!!!'") ... but I'm going to assume that most folks here do. Remember the router sits between the Internet and your home network -- being connected to your router via wifi only indicates that the internal communication link between device and router is working...it does not guarantee that the router can get to the Internet.

I realize it's been a few days since the OP made this thread, but the first thing I would do is verify that other devices attached to my router do indeed have access to the Internet. If not, power-cycle your network equipment (router, modems, etc) to see if that fixes it. If you do have working Internet, then I'd investigate the Google services route or see if there's a reason your tablet isn't getting to the Internet.

I continually have to shut off my wifi and restart it every time I want to use wifi. Every other device connects to Internet fine just not my stock N7. My N7 has wifi+hspa through AT&T. Would this make a difference preventing me from going to blue from grey icon?

You're not quite correct there. a grey wifi icon on an android device usually means an internet connection, but no connection to Google services. I encountered a problem about a year ago where for about a day my GNex would not connect to anything google related (gmail, calendar, play store, maps, etc), but everything else was connecting just fine. Wifi icon (and the 3G connection as well) were grey bars instead of blue.

On some devices, you cannot get internet access unless your system date and time is set correctly, including time zone.

Well, I don't dispute they icon means Google services can't be reached... But I assure you you get the same behavior when your Internet in general is down. As I stated in previous post, step 1 = verifying Internet works, step 2 = figuring out why your device can't reach Google services.

gray icon only means wifi is connected, has nothing to do with Internet. blue icon indicates Google services can't CAN be reached... which obviously means Internet is available and accessible.

In my experience, a gray wifi icon in notifications means I'm connected to a router, but cannot reach the internet through the router. Blue bars shows I'm connected to a router and can access the internet.

In a nutshell, that's what I was trying to say...

My guess is that the device "determines" it's ability to reach the Internet by pinging Google Services, which is why the inability to reach that specifically can cause the grey icon.

In summary: Gray wifi icon = cannot reach Google Services. Causes could be (1) Google Services is down, (2) Local Internet is down for user, or (3) improper DNS or routing is preventing user from accessing Google Services.

All my other electronics connect and work perfectly with my wifi. I also went to my friends house and tried to connect to her WiFi with my nexus 7 and it still had the gray bars.

My understanding is later versions of android do not support WEP encryption. Is it possible your router is configured with WEP instead of WPA2.
