[CDMA HERO ROM] Gumbo ROM 1.5c

I love this rom. The only thing I can't figure out is the Wifi tethering. My laptop can connect but can't get on the internet. I've wiped, reflashed, un rooted, re rooted and everything else I can think of. Every time it starts, I check the log and "Deleting routing-rule.." always fails. Any ideas?

Try moving the wireless tether app. Right now it's on the data partition, but some people have better lock when it's on the system partition:
From the terminal/command prompt on your computer -

Code:
cd \location\of\Android\sdk\tools\directory
adb remount
adb shell
mv /data/app/wireless_tether_1_70-pre1_htc.apk /system/app/
reboot

gbhil, before I flash the full Gumbo package, should I do anything to disable A2SD?

Of that list, I have the MyCoupons and ChompSMS installed.

I know you got it figured out, but just in case anyone else is wondering -

You can flash Gumbo full over any other version without a wipe and no need to do anything to apps2sd. It's automagic.

And that list - I am not buying Sprint's nonsense. I have used every one of those apps on their list without issue. IMO they are in too deep and don't know what to say. They need to hire a few people from these forums lol.

Hah, dropping installed apps to under 70 fixed it.

Ugggghhhh. I hate that bug. This isn't the first time it has had ROM cookers scrambling to figure out what's wrong for a user.

I'm very happy we were all able to get SenseUI on CDMA networks, even with that bug, but would it kill HTC to warn you when you are approaching the app limit?

BTW - that bug is gone in 2.1 sense, so they weren't lying about having to do it to get cupcake running. No need for pitchforks and torches at HTC America's office.....yet lol.

2.1 sense is what I'm waiting for. I was happy using Bare, mostly because I hated flipping through home screens, but with the invention of Leap I have no problem with having 7 or even 20 home screens :D

What I *really* want is card view like what's in WebOS.

oh man i love the new ROM i'm having a blast customizing my phone right now
first time rooting was easy with your guide...
THANKS

I guess it would be possible to add in the Vanilla Cupcake gallery, but it, well, it sucks lol.

The new gallery needs OS 2.1 .

Glad you're digging the ROM.

Lol thats cool. What about the lock screens is there one like on moto droid that i can flash to my phone?
Thanks again.

lockbot from the market will do that. IIRC you can use an iPhone style lock screen as well with that app.

Beats me. I like Sense. That's why I still use the Hero vs. the Moment or Droid. While helping out on that 2.1 rom over at XDA I thought I was gonna go bonkers trying to get anything done via my phone lol.

But I certainly like the fact the everyone gets a choice. About time cell phones finally caught up with that.

I agree. Sprint's supposedly going to the Legend... we'll see.

I swear I'm not as dumb as this is going to make me sound but I tried doing that through cmd on my compter and I'm getting nothing but errors, any way you can break that down for me like I was a 5 year old?

If you haven't already, you'll need to download the SDK. If you used Fresh's pre-kitchen 0.2 to root your phone, you might be able to get away with changing to that directory via the command prompt and running adb from the adb folder in there.

If you're using the SDK, you'll want to extract it to a directory on the root of your drive (C:\android-sdk-windows). In there is a directory called tools (C:\android-sdk-windows\tools).

So what you'll want to do is:

Code:
cd \android-sdk-windows\tools
adb remount
adb shell
mv /data/app/wireless_tether_1_70-pre1_htc.apk /system/app/
reboot

is apps2sd built into your ROM if so i do i use it?

Yes it is. In the recovery image, select partition sd card.
Following the directions in recovery, set
swap to zero
ext to 1024
the rest as fat

this will give you 1 gigabyte for apps. You can adjust that number (1024) to meet your needs.

PARTITIONING YOUR SD CARD WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT. BACK IT ALL UP FIRST.

Try what fuzzy was nice enough to explain. If you get stuck, just holler. Thanks fuzzy.

With the full version of this rom (not bare) is there any way I can remove the HTC dialer and go to the stock Android dialer? I know it's weird but I actually like it better.

Also, after doing so is there a way to restore it later?

Thanks.

*edit* Also, I'm trying to find the files for the theme pictured in the older versions of the Gumbo rom with the black launcher bar (I think it's called Espresso?) but have been unable to find them after searching. Can anyone point me to these? Thanks again.

Can't do it. The way Android boots, you have to tell it what support files and libraries to use while running, and everything on the system uses them. Stock dialer (and contacts, have to change both) won't work with HTC Sense libs.

Rull /system/app/Rosie.apk from a copy of Gumbo 1.5b and push it to the phone. It was changed back by popular demand. The way this ROM is set up, almost ANY theme will work.

Ok, thanks for the reply... too bad about the dialer, but I appreciate the info.

I'm grabbing a copy of 1.5b for the Rosie.apk now. Thanks again. :)

Sorry for another noobish question...

I have the Rosie.apk and am ready to install... typically I would install an .apk with Astro file manager, but that doesn't seem to work. Do I need to flash this file like I would with a rom?

Thanks.
