It doesn't appear unless you sign a new contract or didn't previously have a smartphone.
Sprint tweeted this morning about the data plans, but that all smartphones will be subject to the $10/month premium like the Evo/Epic/Shift.
I think we should admit that since new devices have not gone up in price, the carriers may have been eating it in the pocket book over the past couple years with the down economy. Compare what a $200 device can do now vs what a $200 device could do three years ago....I had a Samsung Instinct...nuff said.
It's difficult as a consumer to deal with price hikes, but now more people will be helping foot the bill for 4G expansion, and possibly more to come with actual carrier service quality which really hasn't improved very much over the past couple years if you compare it to how much better the devices have become in the same time.
Now that you bumped up the price....bring on the Iphone 5 mfers!
Really? Everything I've seen says it appears when you activate a new smartphone.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G.
Computers also cost a lot less than they did 3 years ago, and do a lot more. I can buy a netbook for like $200 today that is more powerful than the mid range laptops of 3 years ago ($600 to $800 range).Sprint tweeted this morning about the data plans, but that all smartphones will be subject to the $10/month premium like the Evo/Epic/Shift.

Sounds like I should just return my Evo and get back on my old phone and plan and ride my contract out. I am already on the $10 charge but if I have to pay $10 on a regular smartphone, then I don't think so.
I guess it's not a huge deal, because I'm already paying for it, and I'm the only one on my plan that ever upgrades.
I think $10 per line is a bit steep. Not complaining though, as Sprint has been very good to me.
Let's just wait and see what Verizon's 4G service will add to their cost.. Also, at $10 per line it is still less than $30 per line at Verizon and doesn't include 4G or navigation/extras..
Sprint has been very very good to me as well and it would take alot to make me switch... I also love upgrading every year![]()
This is a jacked up way of thinking. Sprint HAS to create perks for new cuwtomers because they need new customers! And there's no reason for Sprint old timers to carp, 10 + years and you get your yearly upgrade no matter the plan cost whereas new customers have to have a high MRC.
Looks like I'll be paying the early termination fee and jumping to Verizon. Sprint now has nothing to keep me loyal.
I joined for the Evo and with the promise that I could upgrade my phone yearly... that was the promise then that made me sign up. Maybe I'll pitch a bit of a fit to get out of the early termination fee.
Doggone money-grubbers. This kind of thing makes me sick.
Well, I've been with Sprint constantly since 2005. I had to cut them beginning in 2001 because Afghanistan and Iraq don't HAVE Sprint service. Before 2001 I was with them, too. Using the logic I see on here from the 10+ crowd, I'm not a loyalist since I've only been with Sprint for 5 years, going on 6?
