You using vpn ?I reset home and chromecast but while setting up I did get a strange warning. It said this chromecast device was made for another country and may not work with your wifi.
It did work fine however after the setup I still get that warning when casting.
The other country warning concerns me so I am going to unplug it but after 2 years if someone could steal anything from me through Chromecast I'm sure they already would have.
It's too bad. I enjoyed Chromecast although I know all such devices are a security risk.
Perhaps all the people in the google support threads I read about this warning had the same Cromecast model I did.
Maybe I will try the new Chromecast on Amazon but I suspect the issue is in my phone since my LG V20 gives no warnings. I don't want to have to buy any subscriptions though.
No but I purchased my phone at Best Buy unlocked then connected to VZW. The Chromecast itself was one of hundreds of free promotional devices given away at Mohegan Sun.You using vpn ?
Strange it would think in another country , ad gurad? No but I purchased my phone at Best Buy unlocked then connected to VZW.
The thing is I don't cast my screen often but I have done it a few months ago uneventfully. There is always a blue box with some sort of Google warning but this second warning started some time between last winter and this week. As soon as I saw it I backed out although reading it carefully only data used done while casting is at risk. I only cast family videos so no passwords nor sensitive info is cast.
As I said before I have never heard of malware that WARNS users not to use it. I suspect this is some Android 10 warning that was somehow triggered and now won't go away.
In the Google help threads I linked to nobody says it is malware. They all just complain about the extra click.
The only Google app I sometimes cast was YouTube to see MLB or NFL highlights on YouTube.
I hope eventually someone reads this thread who has seen this warning and maybe we can trace down the source.
Nope. I don't use any sketchy software. Stuff like Tasker or adguard are beyond my understanding. I don't get any weird ads, only thr typical ones that appear browsing or in apps that come with ads like Weather.com etc.Strange it would think in another country , ad gurad?
Maybe Mohegan Sun bought them from a foreign source although it immediately gave set up directions in English.Strange it would think in another country , ad gurad?
Im not sure after no vpn or ad guards , strange!Maybe Mohegan Sun bought them from a foreign source although it immediately gave set up directions in English.
Its beyond my knowledge with chromecastMaybe because gigabyte Wi-Fi didn't exist when this Chrome device was designed?
So the dongle did help your notification, glad to hear that and thanks for updating usJust for fun I did a find my phone to make sure a clone in Brazil didn't show up but it found me right where I am so no worries there.
Turns out I have an old Microsoft casting dongle that works fine and doesn't give me any scary warnings. If I want to look at cat vids I can use that. Of course it doesn't have any of the linked apps but if I look at YouTube on my phone I can simultaneously cast it to big screen. Better than nothing until I get to the bottom of this issue.
I also sent a help message to the Google Chromecast Forums.
BTW there were others there who had the manufactured in another country warning too but not all connected. Mine does. Perhaps THAT kicks out the extra warning.
Yes but of course it isn't a Google device it is MicrosoftSo the dongle did help your notification, glad to hear that and thanks for updating us![]()
Its just a connection between the chromecast and tv the dongle , shouldn't change anything?Yes but of course it isn't a Google device it is Microsoft
so I bet a new Chromecast dongle would give me the same message. It casts through smart view which is entirely different.
Correct , i have my shop security camera hooked up to google home but still didn't see that message.Chromecast connects to your Google account and Google Home.
Microsoft dongle only connects to Samsung smart view. All it can do is mirror devices not connect to accounts.
I'm wondering if my security cameras kick off that warning in Google Home even though I don't connect to them. The warning mentions recording devices which Chromecast is not.
You can still test it out , just to rule it out .Darn. Thought I nailed it. Well you saved me the trouble of trying again after disconnecting the cameras.
