Confirmed, we have the worst still camera...

you speak too high of me, but thanks. ;)
oh, and yeah, they all suck in one way or another. but that's because ALL camera phones suck as much as I've repeatedly said in the past. but that should not stop anyone from being able to take at least some great shots, even if they have no idea what they are doing. todays phone cameras are at least a lot better then in the past and you can now tweek quite a few settings to take even better shots then if you couldn't. but let's not forget that they are only phone cameras...not god in a box.

Exactly! If the person who had taken the pictures bothered to adjust some settings on all of the cameras then most likely they would have all been comparable with no measurable difference. Instead they look horrible, which is your point (and mine too). Imho this was more of a test of which had the best default settings and not which is the best camera. If I can take great shots on such a "crappy" phone camera as the one on the EVO 3D then I think just about anyone can. I am nowhere near an expert but I take pictures hundreds of times better every day than the best out of that bunch. That test made them ALL look bad.

Agreed, I'll continue to tweak the settings to get the best out of it. Still working on the best settings for low light.

No, we have the worst AUTO settings on a phone.

Set your own ISO depending on the light conditions.
Set your own white balance.

You'll be amazed at the difference.

Hopefully a software update will fix the 3D's AUTO settings, since it's not a hardware issue at all.

Exactly. A friend of mine has the 3D and I have a 4G. He was *****ing about his pictures in low light until I showed him that little (well known) iso setting. He's g2g now.

Sorry I'm new to this setting. How do you know what to set it too?

Rocking the HTC EVO 3D

I still think the bottom line is the SOFTWARE needs to get better. When my kid is running around doing something funny inside I don't want to have to spend 30 seconds changing the settings because last time I used it was outside.

I can do what I can but damn, do some better coding eh?

My point exactly.

I know this poor dead horse is beaten beyond recognition but you don't have to change the settings that often once you change them. Also, changing the review period to "no review" allows you to take pictures in more rapid succession. Did you see my pictures on page 2? I caught a freakin' football in mid-air for heaven's sake! Now THAT is an action shot! :D

Mine has been off, but what exactly does turning off the review do? I'm still able to review photos so I'm a bit unclear on this.

Sorry about that. I didn't realize. If it is set to no review then there isn't as much delay between one picture and the next.

I've done this and quite frankly I am tried of having to do it. it does help but the shots are still well below par. The camera just seems to lack color though I can't complain abut the sharpness. I have an Epic 4G touch right now and its night and day. If the EVO3D had a descent camera I would never have gotten a Touch as I love everything else about the phone. I am glad someone confirmed this to quiet all of the folks who insist that this camera is any good. Trust me I WANT it to be good but it is garbage.

Been there and done that Jerzy. The camera simply sucks. I optimistically carried it to my 5 year old's first day of school and have about one pic out of ten that I took that I could consider keeping; and yes I adjusted the settings.

I get great action shots all the time. I hope your new device works out for you.

Its always the same argument with you fan boys. So because I'm displeased with the camera (relative to others ive tested) I must hate everything else about the phone right? I like everything else about the phone. But I guess that's impossible. The proof and data is in the article. Our camera was the worst tested. Period. Settings aside. Why is there even an argument?

I'm with you Vick. I've had the same problem with the fanboys. You can't say anything at all negative about the phone.
I love the phone, but it is not perfect in every aspect. The camera on AUTO, sucks. When compared to other phones, it sucks even more. That simple. So whats to argue about?
I've said this before
"If you have shares/stock in HTC or HTC EVO 3D then I understand your blind loyalty to the phone, but if you don't, what is your problem?"
Here we go, my heads down. :-X O:-)

lacks color? then set your saturation to +1, problem solved.

if you don't mind using flash for indoors, then put the flash setting to auto (looks like this = A/) and you'll never have to touch this again. the flash not wont fire outside, but inside it will work.

if you hate using the flash indoors for your kiddie shots, then yes, you'll have to change one setting at least. turn the ISO to 400 and set the white balance to incandesent.

btw, it's not only the coding that is causing the problems that you are having. it's the lack of quality parts that make up every camera on every phone. heck, the first place phone on the test had such poor "depth of feild" that half the photo was out of focus. try using the "my touch" phone for your kids...great in low light, but don't expect for anything to be in focus if you don't capture your subjuct perfectly. yet it got first place in the test and did all this with more then a few flaws.

Lol warpdrive, can you imagine this scenario?

Customer : I'd like to return my Cannon XP-2500 that my husband gave me for my birthday. It's defective.

Camera Store Employee : Of course, ma'am. It is still covered under warranty. We apologize. Let me pull it up in the system. OK, would you please describe what is wrong with your device?

Customer : This thing isn't worth the $9,999 he paid for it! I can't believe that for this kind of money I have to change the settings to take a decent picture! I want to just be able to point and shoot!

Meh. I give up. It would be different if the settings weren't adjustable and you were just stuck with it the way it is out of the box. I have seen lots of great shots (yes, action and in low light as well) people have taken using this phone posted in the sticky thread above and elsewhere and consistently take great shots myself. If they don't feel it is worth making a few adjustments to keep a phone they otherwise like (by their own admission) then to each his own. That test demonstrates to me that without making adjustments all phone cameras look like crap. Not one of those shots was head and shoulders above the rest.

Lol, I typed the above post last night during a bout of insomnia. Just one more point and then I'm done. How many of you installed car stereos and didn't tweak the settings? How many of you just leave them as they are regardless of the type of music you are listening to (i.e. Rap vs Rock)? I don't believe I'm the only one who changes theirs. Heck, I use an equalizer on my EVO 3D to achieve the best music experience I can when listening using headphones or plugged into the cassette tape adapter in my 2001 Xterra. IMHO adjusting the camera settings is no different. Regardless of which phone you use you just aren't going to get the best results using the settings right out of the box.

OK, 'nuff said. If one feels justified in getting a different phone because it has better default settings then that is that person's prerogative. I'm done now.
