Convince me to get a LG G4 instead of a Galaxy S6.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new smartphone, but for the life of me, I can't decide between the LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6.

With the samsung, wireless charging and fingerprint scanners are not a necessity for me, but it does add to the value and future proof the phone. I've tried out the S6 in a verizon store and I must say that I feel the screen is better on the S6 compared to the G4. The viewing angles on the S6 are wider and video performance seems a little bit more crisp. In regards to the camera, both seem good enough for my needs. As for the user interface, I wasn't really impressed with the G4 because I'm not used to it. (I'm coming from HTC Rezound running on sense). The samsung seemed more palatable, but only because my brother has a Galaxy S4 and I use his sometimes.

Now, this may make me seem real noobish but the first time I went to verizon to get a feel for the phones, I thought the LG G4 didn't have power or volume buttons. My second trip back to the store and I realized they are on the back. A lot of people praise this. Can anyone give me their own feedback on this button placement. Do you get used to it and is it advantageous.

Overall, I feel that both phones are definitely flagship devices that should be in everybody's consideration for current smartphones. I tend to feel that the S6 is the more premium device, but the 64GB version that I want is $150 more than the G4. Now, I will be getting a $150 coupon for new edge customers so that'll cancel some of the cost. But, is the G4 the better value considering I can use a microSD slot and removable battery when the time comes?

Here is the cost (I will be on the edge program):

Lg G4 Black Leather- $549-$150(coupon) = $400

Samsung Galaxy S6 64Gb - $699 - $150(coupon) = $550

I'd like to hear some people's experiences and opinion on this matter. Should I go for the LG G4? I would like to save some money but I do have a good coupon. Or do some of you think the G4 is better than the S6?

#1 I see you are more on S6 side the way you are talking
#2 about the back buttons, in 1 short word to describe it its awesome! Your fingers rest on exact that spot while on the phone its the most easiest to turn up or down the volume while on a phone call and even while listening music or anything else besides that while watching a video in the LG Video player you could adjust the volume just by sliding your finger up and down on the right side of the screen so you don't actually need to use the keys left side is brightness of the video! It's just like I said awesome! Power standby button is not needed that much since there is double tap to wake and sleep the screen but its still easier in my opinion to reach than on the side or top, once you start using it you will start reaching the volume buttons on the back of every device and you will double tap to try to wake any other device.
#3 the screen size is 5.5" compared to 5.1" on the S6 with a nice slight curve the make it feel batter in hand for more 1 handed use, the 5.5" doesn't mean that the phone is huge, just the opposite, the phone is the exact same height as the HTC One M9 which actually has only a 5" screen and its slightly taller and wider from the S6
#4 G4 is the "ONLY" flagship so far this year that still has both a removable battery (3000mAh) and a expandable storage via micro SD card up to 2TB
This means you could actually connect a hard drive via OTG cable which has 2TB and use it normal just like on a computer S6 in this case doesn't have a removable battery (battery its self is smaller as well) neither does it have expandable storage
#5 camera is pretty much similar but the G4 is much better in low light since it has a f1.8 vs f1.9, both have manual mode (pro mode on the S6) but the G4 has more controllable options like shutter speed and you could shoot and save on RAW S6 can't neither
There are plenty more stuff but this is the top major difference what I could think of at the moment

I'll keep it simple. Flip a coin. Been saying, you can't go wrong as both has it's pros/cons.

Get the G4 - play about with it for a week, if you don't like it return it for the S6 - both phones are excellent, you won't be disappointed either way.

This is what I would do coupled with the tall guys comment :-P

Whatever the coin outcome is try for a week and take it from that point.

Both Grrrrreat devices

Good Luck.

Get the G4 first so you can return it in a week or 2 then get the S6 and eventually end up with buyers remorse finding your way back to the G4. Just get whatever you really want!!

I love the back buttons. They feel totally natural whereas the side buttons just get in the way (for me).

It also felt initially big to me but I'm getting used to it, but without question it does take up more pocket real estate than smaller ones, not sure how crazy I am about that.

BTW...I'm coming from Samsung phones, just wanted a change and I have no regrets yet.

I have gotten used to the back buttons, but I hardly used them. I am addicted to the double tap on the display to turn the screen on and off. I got used to that with the Oneplus One and I love it. I think the removable battery, SD card, double tap/knock code, camera with the laser focus and bigger screen brought me to the G4 over the s6.

^ This and I'll add/emphasize ... If you you don't need removable sd card and removable battery and want something that looks similar to an iPhone get the S6. The G4 also has a larger screen.

Both are great phones and have some significant differences.

The glass back on the display at the AT&T store is already broken :P
Also, the Edge, though looks "cool" I found troublesome and actually a PITA sometimes as any text, like web pages, follow that curve around.
The lack of SD storage and removable battery, for me, is a huge turn off.
To me, the large screen of the G4 is much easier to read.

It's cheaper.
It's got tap to wake/sleep.
It's got leather.
You get freebies (battery+cradle+sdcard)
It's got more screen real estate
Bigger battery.
Replaceable battery
SD Card slot
Less bloat
Love the curve
Less fragile
Great feel in hand
Swappable backs
It's not a Samsung (I kid)

This is my answer as well. I have used both (using the G4 right now) and both are seriously great phones. You aren't really losing. For me the deciding factor was the G4 has a 5.5 inch screen and I watch a lot of media.

Well if you're like the rest of mankind, whatever you get you'll wish you bought the other.

I also struggled with this decision but ultimately went with the G4. Some of the most important factors that swayed my decision:

Camera- RAW output out of the box. Best low light performance on any smartphone. Low-light being the bane of smartphones, I was elated to see the G4 improve on this.

Battery- Not only removable, but bigger. I find it dumb that smartphone companies are trying to sacrifice battery life for just a tiny fraction reduction of thickness. Also, in a year or two, the initial battery will not be the same capacity due to degradation. It's easy to fix for G4 since you can replace it yourself and you can do it for free if you take advantage of the extra battery deal.

Less issues- no RAM management and battery power loss issues that others have reported with the s6. People said there might be touchscreen issues with G4.. But I don't have any so the G4 has been the perfect phone for me so far.

It really comes down to your wants, needs, and what you fancy. Both are great phones. Both have their pros ....and cons. Can't say either one is better than the other.

My needs are: have a great camera, have a great battery life, good for calls and texting, and be good for watching films.

I had the S6 with 64GB. Very good phone. Really well built, great screen, etc. I am not into buttons a la iPhone, but the finger scanner works flawlessly. The major thing that made me give up the phone is the batter life. It. Just. Sucks. Now. I know from reading in this G4 forum some folks have had issues with battery. Not me (knock on wood).

I did a little experiment on both. I would fully charge the phones by 10 pm, unplug them, and then by 630 am when I would wake up, I would check on battery %.

S6 would go from 100% when left alone then by morning at 55%+. Would vary. Sometimes it would be at 70%.
G4 so far has from 100% when left alone then by morning at 95%+. It will vary.

I received on the S6 the 5.1.1 update and did a hard farctory reset. And.. Nothing. Still had a louse battery life. My brother and nephew had same issues with battery life so I knew it was't just me.

Since I do a lot of travelling, battery life is a big must. Camera and the rest are on par with the S6. There may be some areas where the S6 edges the G4.

In the end, it's what you can live with that will determine your choice.

Just throwing in my 2 cents... A big reason I have a G4 over S6 is the lack of a physical home button. When I had the iPhone, S3, S4, and S5, I always thought I'd never go without a physical home button. Then I tried an HTC without one and I'll never go back. I didn't realize how much I hit the home button when I'm in an app and then scroll thru my home pages before opening an other app (or camera etc.). (yes, I know I can use the multi tasking button, but sometimes I don't want to flip thru a bunch of open apps before finding the one I need).
I compare having an on screen home button to when I made the switch to an on-screen keyboard. I wasn't sure about it at first, but obvisoulsy would never go back to a physical keyboard. It's just so much faster to tap a screen then push a button and (in the Samsung phones) wait...

When you flip a coin, that moment before the coin falls, you will wish exactly what you are waiting for 😉
