well there is no custom roms for our phones, the only way is to flash p500 roms and my kernel on top.

could you post how exactly to: 1 backup the thrive, 2 root the phone ( I have 2.2.2 from att), 3 put the correct p5xx flash on, and then add your kernel on? The thread has gotten so long I fear that I may miss a step and brick or loose my data. Thanks for all your effort on this, you seem to have the answer for all us Thrive owners that want gingerbread and att could careless about.

well im not exactually sure how the kernel will run on the thrive cuz it was based on the phoenix but im think they it should work cuz they are almost the same thing! so thats why i need someone to test it out on their thrive as well! but no one is willing to try it

Joban, where is the kernel file you created for the phone?

I have had CWM recovery installed and working for a while now. All I need is your file to flash to my phone.

I was trying to help over at XDA in the thrive thread, so I already have a lot of this ironed out already. I have CWM Recovery already installed, my phone has multiple backups, and I'm not even a stickler about the wifi not working.

I will help you test it if you post the file.

alright is late so im going to try to make this quick and simple...
donovan has created a thread on rooting....
reading thru this thread it seems everyone has CWM sucksesfully.....fyi..hitting rom backup in app soft bricked my phone....joban was more than willing to help me get it back(5days later)
if you google CWM or flashing roms. there are great tuts on it....
in a nut shell
boot into CWM clear cash..delete partitions
install from sd
choose install zip....choose the one you want... rom first...
conferm i think 2 times ... let it run..
reboot....distorted screen...may take 5-10 min on first boot
reboot back into CWM...
just flash kernal ....dont delete cash or partionc...
reboot....
enjoy.

i am running cm7 with jobans kernal....it rocks.....

OK, I have the Thrive, rooted, and a backup. what I dont have is the correct ROM file to use. Where do I go for that? Then where do I get the Kernel of jobans?

My guess here is to get the cm7 fo rthe p500 and then use jobans kernel... am I close?
