-Don't mount sdcard
-usb debugging should be on(checked)
-Make sure your getting the path to the folder where adb is located.

If you using termminal on the phone you don't use the adb command you do

-su
-the the rest of the commands.

After I type in su it asks for a password. What password is it asking for? it isn't my computer password

It shouldn't be asking for a password give me details of the steps you have done and where you at exactly and ill do whatever i can to help you out.

for some reason im getting "$" instead of "#" i type su and get denied I DO HAVE ROOT i checked with titanium back up root checker and su can anybody tell me how to fix this? im on the Optimus V (uses same recovery was told to use this method"

okay got my last problem fixxed now when i type mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak

i get an error saying that no such file or directory exists

Ok… I’m a noob as the title above my name will tell you so this may be an easy answer but whatever it is I will need the answer in terms a 5 year old can follow. : D I have rooted my phone and got one of lego rom with the BuildProp-Deluxe-No-HTTP etc. etc. It works GREAT! I have rooted my wife’s phone and when I open the Terminal Emulator and put type in su to get the “#” then I type:
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-s-1.1.0.img
# reboot recovery
Without the “#” of course then I get the phone saying “cannot create /system bin/: is a directory” I have un zipped the flash_Img.zip and the recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-s-1.1.0.img.zip onto the root of the SD card. How do I get past this part?

i just got this from the Terminal Emulator "cannot create /system bin/flash-image: read-only file system"

OK... I'm getting the “cannot create /system bin/: is a directory” response again over and over.

Okay, I have tried three times to custom recovery my phone but each time my phone just reboots with the LG logo, thankfully this brings it back to stock so I can try again XD

But I still don't understand why the same thing keeps happening, I have rechecked each line I type in, checked the md5 sum on all files, I even formatted my sd card so there are only 4 files on it.

z4root.1.3.0.apk
ThundeROM_V1.6.2.zip
recovery-thunderc-s-RA-v1.2-GNM.img
flash_image

So any help is appreciated ><;;

NOTE: after I do the second last step, where I flash_image recovery /blah/blah and the next line is always screwing up, as in, I don't get the # at the start automatically, is that just with me?

EDIT: an error I keep getting when reverting to stock is this:

01:39:31 : _SetAuthMark Fail
01:39:31 : AuthMark?? ??Ȯ?? Phone?? Write ???? ?ʾҽ??ϴ?!
01:39:31 : _SetAuthMark Fail
01:39:31 : LoadCDMAPhoneData() Error

Could that be the reason why custom recovery won't work? ><
Is there a fix for the being frozen at the LG splash screen?

refer to this, you need to get into emergency mode BEFORE you connect your phone, otherwise it just auto startup

OH YEAAAAAAAAA

i mananged to finally perform custom recovery on my phone, I had to use the 2 files from here BUT i followed the instructions on what to type in from the first post. So for those who keep getting the LG logo and restarting, try that, it worked for me =D

Did the first command run fine without giving any errors? And are you trying it as root?
After I type # “mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system” into the Terminal Emulator I get “Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory”. I rooted her phone with Z4root and its rooted as far as I can tell.

Thank you very much for your help. I read the first two pages and then tried it on my Virgin Mobile Optimus V (VM670) Running Android 2.2.1.

One step had a problem.
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
This told me that no such file or directory exists.

I went ahead with the rest of the procedure and it worked fine. I was able to make a back up and reboot to regular phone use. I rebooted again to the recovery menu with the vol-down + home + power key combination and it worked fine.

Thanks again.

ETA: I rooted the phone by following the instructions in this thread first, and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have known how to get to the # and begin the process otherwise.
