Ok i finally got past the command lines but now the recovery mode won't work, the screen goes total black after the LG sign flashes. I don't know if this can be fixed or is the way of deleting flash?

i have harsh words, mean words and a link to the custom recovery that works for your Optimus S. Please be kind, please remind, not all Optimus Ss are the same, yours features a different display that uses different drivers, which a little poking around brings you to THIS have fun.

I followed the steps above both via adb push and downloading files to sd card. When I go into recovery mode I am not given the option to install from sd card, only the following choices:

reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip (which does not exist on my sdcard)
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition

Recovery mode does not give me the option to flash from sdcard like the example shown in post above. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
I am having same problem can you please guide me how to get it done

I am stuck with ADB mode ....it's not identifying my phone
...please help me

To answer this first, you need to install the custom recovery either through ADB on the computer, or terminal emulator on the phone depending on where the files are. The reason you only see so few options is because that is the STOCK recovery not the custom one. It is likely however that your phone has the newer display so this recovery will probably not work for you anyways, please see my post above for a link to a custom recovery that works for all displays.

you are most likely not in usb debugging mode. Open up settings and go to applications>>development, and check usb debugging mode. additionally make sure you have the drivers installed for you phone on the computer they can be found here and the second one here i always just install both of them but only one is the driver, have fun but i'd just install both.

what update.zip do i need?

you don't need an update.zip, i'm not sure why you're looking for one, but if you're talking about looking for one to install the custom recovery there isn't one. You're going to have to get your hands dirty, metaphorically speaking, and install the custom recovery with some command scripts. for the hundredth time, you probably have a newer optimus with a newer display, this recovery will not work for you. Please see the link in my last post for a custom recovery that works with all displays for the optimus s. Follow the instructions on the first page of that link and you will have a custom recovery on your phone in no time.

Wait so are we supposed to delete that install recovery name?

where do you see that at, and/or what do you mean by that?

You don't delete anything with the instructions found on page one. if you're following instructions anywhere else, well, that's not a very bright idea.

Is that still the case? I noticed this change log on the first post

Good to know but there have been a lot of people since that date that still complained about just having a black screen but you never hear it from the zef's. This was the first recovery I put on my S, so please dont misunderstand, this is just not the recovery that works for everyone it seems. Plus it's Creator isn't even active on this forum, as per his own statement in the first post.

If you tried to flash thunder c, I had the same problem. I ended up using "Idiots guide to custom recoveries, roms. ..."
Edit. Sorry I used xionia recovery .it's a couple of threads down

Google screencast for android, if adb is installed on ur computer it takes two seconds to get going. If not install adb then run screencast.
