I've been buying cell phones for over a decade, most of that time multiple cell phones per year, and never have I once had a battery capacity below 100% from a new phone.

OP, I'd return or exchange it. That's not normal.

Are you talking about the charge gauge, or something like AccuBattery that estimates actual capacity? Those are two separate measurements, and any phone I've used it on shows the capacity in the mid 90% range when brand new.

It's simply not feasible to expect the battery to have zero capacity loss. Just sitting on the cargo ship from China and similar areas to the U.S. can be a month or more. That sort of non-climate controlled storage alone is going to cause the battery integrity to take a hit.

On the flip side several sources say that batteries often have a higher capacity than listed to account for some of those factors. I imagine it would be difficult to get warranty service on the basis of what accubattery shows however.

Quit charging your phone.
Run it down to 30% or 25 %
Then charge your phone to 100%

I believe you are being mislead between typical capacity and minimum rated capacity.
In settings under battery capacity you will see 2 numbers. Typical is what the OEM advertises in the specifications. The minimum rated capacity is an average of what is actually produced.

Yeah if it shows another percentage drop in the next few days, I will return it. Phone is awesome, but this battery deal is concerning.

I bought a used note 8 when my S10 busted last year and it still had 100% battery efficiency.

If you bought a new S8 last year I'd have trouble believing it had 100 percent efficiency so I can't imagine a used one being there.

I'm not even sure why they use the term efficiency. Electrical efficiency in the utility industry has to do with resistance.

This is also common with Li-ion batteries. They tend to break in with a few cycles, allowing for a bit of a capacity increase. That increase could also be AccuBattery making a better estimation with the additional charge cycles.

After a week or so the OS becomes more optimized to your usage, so your time between charges could go up as well, even without a capacity increase.

Thats what I did. I ran it down to 30 and then charged to 100. Once it has a good grip of my patterns, I'm going to start unplugging @90%
