So I just went through all 30 pages and I found a few mentions of Clockwork Recovery. I'm curious is installing clockwork through the ROM Manager app and then flashing ThundeROM with that will work?

I'm really looking forward to trying this out, and I'm just worried about and bricking risk and being able to easily swap back to the stock rom if I wanted. Thanks for all your hard work guys!

There was this wallpaper on the stock rom of a snowy mountain that I was quite found of. I went to change wallpaper on this one, and the only options presented are live wallpapers and something from the photo gallery.
Are the original stock photos still there somewhere? Of so, where are they stored?

C1phr do not I mean do not use clockwork recovery it will be your worst mistake ever right now it has been reported this will not make nandroid backups corectly and the way your phone is suppossed to connect to your data/sdcard and ect it dose not work great I had used it and my phone was a vegetable for 2 days and zefie had to hold my hand lol to get me away from what happened so just use the recovery-thunderc-s-RA-v1.2-GNM.img its been working great now hope that helps you stay away from a brick for a while

Alright, thanks for warning me, haha. Using the recovery that you posted (and with flashing custom roms in general) is there really a reason to be very worried about bricking? Given I don't plan on doing anything stupid.

Not really the roms always are tested really good before released the best thing to look at is the log on what they have done before flashing is a great step on insuring a great rom flash but the thunde rom is solid great rom to flash now it has a lot of great tweaks enabled so your phone with just the rom will fly lol but for anything these step are available change logs for recovery, roms, and kernels, ect.

I don't know if its the same for everyone or not, but my time without signal is over 70%. I live where there is always 3g signal so its not always searching. this is a drain in the battery. I know on my last phone when the rom dev fixed it, we got much greater battery life. just something to thimk about.

Mine is sitting right at 50%. It has not moved. I'm not sure if that's a bug or not, but before I flashed it was under 5%

Same exact "problem" .... my radio usage on stock was at about 20% a day and now it's at 60-70% and battery has gone down slightly. I thought it was apps but deleted al of them ad did a fresh reflash of ThundeRom and tested it still hovering at 60%. Glad it's not just me (if it was I'd say it was user error lol)....

We inherited it, same coding that causes this problem is on all LG Optimus S phones (stock, rooted, romed .. doesnt matter) and more importantly, on almost every single CDMA Android phone. We will certainly look into correcting it as I think it should be as simple as removing some coding, coding we didn't introduce, but coding we will look into correcting. Of course, no promises.

Thanks for clearing that up for me I came from XDA and a hero but the phone had been developed for a good 6 months so I never had this bug before. I actually go where im roaming almost on a daily basis so PM me and I'll shoot you my private email and be more then happy to test it out for you. Not disagreeing, just trying to get a better understanding: why is it I did not have this bug before upgrading to ThundeROM? Mine would vary seemingly accurately (when in areas with poor coverage, it would go up. Good coverage, it would go down)

Also, I'm noticing that it doesn't seem to update my Twitter or Facebook accounts since the upgrade while in standby. I'm assuming this is because Wi-Fi turns off to conserve battery. Is there a way to change this behavior?

You can adjust WIFI to be always on. Thats what I did in the settings. This way if wifi is connected your phone can do its updates without using 3g radio

I have been stalking in here for a few days reading extensively and have some questions. First this forum Rocks Im a forum junky and never have i seen so much feedback and helpfulness. ok buttkissing out of the way here we go.

caution Major N00bness follows. I have this phone on its way right now and i am looking forward to learning and tweaking and rooting and all that good stuff. Granted I have never done anyone this on cell phones I am not completely lost with coding and computers etc. First Q. Im understanding the sequence as Root, Recovery, then Rom. The root I get, so that we can have root access, the Recovery however i want to make sure i understand. After creating a custom recovery, i can them flash roms tinker tweak and all that and if i get messed up i can "recover" the the state it was at just before flashing the rom?? is that correct? it would recover to more or less factory settings and apps and all the sprint stuff just alreay rooted???

2nd when I get the phone im gathering I will get it all synced up to my sprint account my cell number etc. and get any ota updates i can before rooting. But does this even matter of im just going to flash the rom anyways? are there thing in the ota update that arent replaced by Thunderom? please advise.

last and most n00bish. after I have accomplished all this flashing and Roming. Will the phone still be setup for my phone number or do i have to reactiviate it to my account.

#1 Yes...Root>Recovery>Custom Roms

#2 Kinda...Recovery allows you to flash the Custom Rom's, when rooting it partially helps you to install the custom recovery. Plus it ads a bunch of features that are useful such as Nand Backup's ect. It's up to you but personally I wouldn't set anything up other than getting to the main screen on your phone...it's all going to get erased anyway.

#3 It will not erase carrier information so you shouldn't have to input your carrier information again.

NOTE: It would be a good idea to become familiar with Backup Pro OR Titanium Backup...both are programs to back up your apps, call data, messaging, ect.

As long as you do a Nandroid backup beforehand (from custom recovery), you shouldn't have a problem. There is always a risk of bricking when you do these things though, so just be sure to follow instructions carefully.

OTA updates - I did the update on mine beforehand, but (someone correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think it matters either way as your flashing it anyways. The activation should still be done though before flashing the rom. After the flash, you will not need to reactivate the phone.

the OTA that will make a difference is the radio update, so go ahead and run your OTA updates, they'll pretty much run for you once your phone is activated the first time, you'll just have to confirm them.

I know this isn't the place to discuss this so i'll make it quick, rooting only allows you to have BASE control of your phone, thus the term root, like getting to the root of the problem, it gives you all the access the phone has, that the carrier/manufacturer/google(ish) locked you out of. The custom recovery is like a bios just not as much of a control freak. The stock "recovery" on the phone basically is in place to return the phone to factory defaults and allows you to manually update some of your phones firmware, ie. radio. "Custom recovery", depending on the build but in our case, allows you to preform firmware updates and allows us to preform whats called a nandroid backup, kind of like hibernating your computer just not, it saves the phones STATE as a back up allowing you to "recover" to that later. To my knowledge you can save multiple "states" but i could be wrong i have yet to need to preform a recovery. The custom recovery also allows you to replace your existing android OS or your ROM, thus it's necessity to this process. The custom rom is your custom OS. This is linux, for your phone, everything is custom/ported learn to love it.

These ROMs are not easy to make, and take time so make sure when this all works out for you, which it will, it's worked for all of us, make sure you pop on here, and say thanks, and as payment try and help new comers with the process.

Similar story here. Started out with a Pre last year, switched to Hero, switched back to Pre because the Hero was terribly slow. But now I'm on my Optimus and I couldn't be happier. This thing flies for a "crappy" phone.

These ROMs are not easy to make, and take time so make sure when this all works out for you, which it will, it's worked for all of us, make sure you pop on here, and say thanks, and as payment try and help new comers with the process.
