Good job. That answers my question I posted last night if this method was doable without bricking or whatnot. Good to know others have done it this way successfully.
Yes, it appears it requires a certain amount of rage

Haven't flashed yet but I think I have an idea on how to fix the bottom buttons to wake the phone again. Check the following file (I use root explorer):
/system/usr/keylayout/thunder_keypad.kl
Check the lines for home, menu, back and search. Home should have another parameter after it - WAKE, and the others - WAKE_DROPPED.
Either add those or pull a copy of the file from an old image then restart the phone.
Wanted to try this using ES File Explorer. Opened the file and am able to edit it. My problem is there are a bunch of keys that say "Menu"....do I need to add WAKE after every key? Also I have no clue what the wake_dropped is about and where/if I should add it.
Carrie, I understand the confusion. To be honest, I'm not quite ready to take the plunge myself.Still have one Optimus on TR 1.6.2 and another on Lego ROM.
It seems like a lot of people have tried their own methods and steps to get to VC with the least resistance possible (with varying results I might add). For me though, I think following the guide linked to above and then following the thread instructions for the desired ROM will yield the best/safest results.
I'm not savvy enough yet to get myself out of a nasty situation.
Well, I did it. Had a bit of a scare but come to find out the buttons (home, volume down, and power) weren't being responsive at first so I was finally able to get to my recovery and flash from there. I have the new VC update, root, and the new TR!!!!![]()
@ Everyone-For all that want the button layout that wakes the screen when pressing any button flash the zip attached to post #2,sorry took me so long.
For those who are coming from 1.6.2 with custom recovery and do not want to lose layout and apps:
1. make a nandroid backup
2. Reboot and once phone is b back on run lgupdater tool.
3. Once update is done and phone reboots, immediately reboot into recovery.
4. Restore your 1.6.2 backup
5. clear cache and dalvik cache
6. Flash 1.7
7. Enjoy.
Whoohooo...I have root!!!And the new TR...whew, I was skeered!
For step 3. above, what is the best way to immediately boot into recovery when it starts to reboot? Remove the battery and use the three-finger recovery start up, hold down the top power button and select power down, then 3 button start? Thanks.
Which methond did you use?
1) Created a new NAND backup
2) Downloaded and saved TR 1.7 onto root of SD card so I would have it in my custom recovery.
3) Updated to VC using the LG Updater tool.
4) Rebooted phone, pulled battery, then gained access to Custom Recovery by pressing the Volume down, Home, and Power buttons VERY HARD SIMULTANEOUSLY (the first two times I tried it I didn't hold them down hard enough or long enough)
5) Wiped data, cache, and davlik using Custom Recovery menu
6) Flashed TR 1.7 zip from SD card using Custom Recorvery menu
I do hope this helps![]()
3. then you just have to hold volume up and home, and then power until the black screen lights up AFTER the LG logo, usually about 10-15 seconds.
Shouldn't that be "Volume Down"?
Shouldn't that be "Volume Down"?
Just curious...Can TR 1.6.2 be used with the VC update?
