Not sure if it has to do with ThundeROM, but my phone has been "freaking out" starting today. While in a text message, letter will be pressed, the notif bar pulls down, and the only way to stop is a bat pull. Any others having this issue?

Any help for me?

[OC Kernel] Xionia Kernel 2.6.32.26 in ThundeRom?

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone has tried this in ThundeRom? If so, does it make a difference? Either good...or bad? I'm interested in hearing some feedback on the benefits or disadvantages.

Thanks everyone.

Ditto. Never touched a camera. There is a VERY robust camera app in the market called vignette. A lot of people swear by it. You may want to see if it offers the features you're looking for.

beezy and KSmithInNY, thanks for your help. Vignette's exposure control has no effect (nor does its "shutter sound" setting - I'm using Silent Snap for that, which seems like a hack - it turns off the entire system's sound while the camera is in use). This page suggests it depends on the camera driver and API and it's just too bad if that sucks.

But I can't believe there's no way to change it; exposure handling must be totally software dependent because a camera is just a lens and sensor sitting there awaiting instructions. Perhaps it's a closed-source camera driver and/or API? Maybe lspci could find what the camera hardware is and google could find an alternative driver/API for it? How hard is it to reverse-engineer a camera?
I'm still within 30 days and considering abandoning ship for a Hero, Evo, or something else... in your experience, is it realistic to think that the Optimus camera situation is fixable at all?

edit: FYI: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.Parameters.html

Another edit: Apparently the Optimus T allows exposure compensation! Is there any way to replace the S's camera API with the T's?

I have the same issue every once and a while. Seems to occur the most if I'm using GPS while driving to work.

This ties back to the screen being problematic/inaccurate, not the ROM. We didnt make the digitizer or the drivers :p Look in the regular section (not the hacks) and you can see posts where people touch 1 part of their screen and something completely different happens. Happens even on stock phones. Someone may try to press a 9 in the dialer and the 1 lights up. Whats probably happening is your experiencing this problem, the phone registers the touch higher on the screen than what it actually is, hence, pulls down the notification bar.

Whenever it happens to me i shut off the screen, wipe it really good to clean off any oils, turn the screen back on and it doesn't happen anymore. Might have to do with oil conducting the touch on the screen to a place where your not actually touching.

Happens to me w/ a clean screen and when I'm not touching the screen.

T-mobile's Optimus-T has an LG camera app that is much better than the Android camera app the S has. Perhaps it can be extracted and ported to the S?

Just want to make sure I'm reading that right. Your screen just does stuff ... without you touching it .... ? ::rubs eyes and re-reads::

Also regarding the oils, I was guessing. Like i said i didnt make the drivers or the digitizer so i can only guess what's going on.

EDIT - Here we go, found it - Touchscreen Going Crazy

Even if the app is there, I think exposure control would still depend on the Camera.parameters object's response to the camera app's calls. I'd think that's why Vignette's exposure control does nothing. Downloading the p509 (Optimus T) open source project from LG... anyone know where to just get ahold of the actual rom image for that phone?

Yes, my phone freaks without me touching it as well. Well, I am typing when it starts, but I set it down and it continues.

Here you go - Touchscreen Going Crazy

Also, you touching your screen and an action continuing is believable (per your description). What i do have a hard time believing though is to set the phone down, not having any issues, come back and it's touching and opening stuff without you touching it first. That to me, is not believable. Not to say anyone would lie, just saying that seems unlikely as when the screen is off the digitizer doesnt recognize input :)

Yep, just starts doing stuff if I'm using it while driving to work (i.e. GPS to see how fast I have to drive to make it on time).

KSmith, my phone has never just freaked out without me touching it first, so you have that part correct.

All I have to do is a bat pull, and it is fine for however long, I am not even sure.

Thanks for the help!

I would wait to see what Sprint has in their next update. It's a widespread issue so i dont think replacing the phone would help in any way. The good news is, when they do update, it probably can't get worse? Ok it certainly can lol.

I'll check with someone, who's a sprint tech, and see if it's logged as an issue in their DB or not. If not, maybe i can inquire as to what it takes to get it logged.

That was quick. The response was humors but I'll share the important part .....

Me - hey .... any issues logged with the Optimus about the touchscreen being flaky?
Him - No "known" issue with the touchscreen on the optimus, no. But of course flaky touchscreens ARE an issue.

I'll spare you from the rest of the conversation but, yes the phones have flaky touchscreens. We'll leave it at that.

Also just an FYI - The emphasis on the word "ARE" was his, not mine ;)

But no fix as of yet. Do you have a screen protector on your phone?

I did for a bit yeah but i took it off. I figured what the heck, I pay for insurance. If the screen gets all messed up Sprint can fix it.

My personal opinion is, these days if a company saves money by using a plastic screen on a touchscreen phone they better have funds allocated to fixing and replacing those screens. The money saved by not licensing corning's gorilla glass is going to go right back into replacing scratched screens. Even if they didn't want to license gorilla glass, they could have used a tempered glass or some sort which would have significantly reduced screen wear and tear and make the screen 100x's more accurate. It's funny because the tech i just spoke to, i literally said "man, i sure would like to spend a little time with Sprint's QC/R&D team". I would be the guy nobody liked because i would find the bug, and i would insist on it's correction prior to release.

If you hear about any openings, send them my way :)

I wonder if it has something to do w/ having a screen protector installed.....
