What custom recovery are you using? If you are not then that's your problem.

You need to "install zip from SD card", not "apply sdcard:update.zip".

1st off, a big thanks for all the hard work you guys do here. I am new to this and wanted some clarification. I got the optimus s last week. I am rooted, running Xionia, and have ThundeRom-v1.8.2. This is my first android phone. I downloaded ThundeRom v1.8.3. Put it on my SD card, did a backup, but I have not flashed the new rom yet because I have been reading conflicting info. If, possible, id prefer not to need to re-download all my programs and such.
So, if I got this right, I should be able to flash 1.8.3 AFTER I
1st) -wipe cache partition and
2nd) scroll down to advanced and - Wipe Dalvik Cache....
-then I can flash without doing the -Wipe Data/Factory Reset?
thanks in advance

That's exactly what I did with no issues. After it booted up and I saw everything was good, I booted into recovery, flashed the stock-button .zip, stagefright buildprop, and my favorite theme.

Yes, you can flash 1.8.3 without wiping Data/Factory Reset.

As I have posted before, I personally prefer to wipe everything including Data/Factory before flashing any rom version, and then use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps and settings, but it is not required for this release.

flashing question

do u have to flash every version of a rom to get everything the rom has to offer. i know stupid noob question

Anyone having problems with mms receiving? I receive a mms hit download and the waiting game begins. Any suggestions?

Are you using the "messaging app?" If you are using a third party app, that may be the problem. I have had problems downloading MMS using GoSMS.

Using stock messaging app full bars of service. Having to send it twice to four times to receive it. May flash a different rom later to see if its my phone or not

Do you happen to have titanium backup? If so, try to restore an old backup of messaging. Restore app and data. Just a thought.

Has anyone else noticed decreased battery life on 1.8.3 as compared to 1.8.2?

I have. My battery seems to die a lot quicker, especially when it's just idle. It's losing about 8% or so an hour when just idle and minimal usage. Seems to be a little worse then 1.8.2 I think, but still a good ROM.

My battery seems to be draining much quicker while idling as well. I have been trying like crazy to figure out if it was an app that was causing the problem.

Have either of you wiped data? I had the same problem until I wiped Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache and re-flashed v1.8.3, now my battery life is even better than when I was on v1.7! That also gave me a chance to pick and choose which apps I wanted to restore with Titanium Backup since I wasn't using all of them. I may have also had an app that was hogging battery, but I have not had any problems yet.
