Decided to pull the trigger and get on board with rooting

Rooted my Incredible yesterday... used UnREvoked 3.2 and forever, Clockwork Mod, etc. (the usual, I think, based on all my reading on the various forums).

I installed SkyRaider 3.5, and reorganized my phone from scratch (i.e. reinstalled all my apps anew, just to be safe). I also did the Verizon Alltell PRL update, and flashed the proper Gingerbread Keyboard (which I REALLY like). The ROM is fine, but I'm back to using Launcher Pro as my interface, as I just really like it compared to Sense.

For root-related apps, I installed SetCPU (to try and help with battery life), ROM Manager, and I also changed the startup animation to the muted Nexus version (very cool!). I also have Titanium for backup in case I want to switch ROMS again, to hopefully make that whole process a bit easier.

So what else are the good things to do once rooted? I thought there was something that's supposed to be a surefire battery boost, but can't find what that was (something about calibrating or charging or something?).

Thanks... does a given Kernel have to be compatible with the ROM you're using? Or any Kernel will do?

I'm pretty sure SkyRaider 3.5 came with a Kernel, so that should mean no reason to change right?

Most ROM chefs use a ROM that they've beta'd for optimal performance. What "optimal" could mean is battery life, or it could be the ever important quadrant and linpack scores.

It could be a stock kernel, or it could be one of the kernels other developers have created. Sorry, dude...I ain't going through 130 plus pages of Skyraider's thread for you to figure out what kernel he's using these days...I think it was andrynalyne's but don't hold me to it. If I remember correctly, if you go into ROM Manager and root through the goodies folder, you'll find a kernel or two there. Adrynalyne's kernels, BTW, are usually geared towards battery life.
