Determining factor on upgrading to the LG V40

In pretty much any electronics business, there's a premium to be an early adopter... This is dictated by the market/people... It's not the companies that decide to do this... If a company charged a premium and found that it was not profitable to take advantage of the "early adopter fee" then it wouldnt do it anymore, but it IS profitable to charge the premium.... There ARE suckers in the world or people that want the latest and greatest immediately.. if you were CEO of a company and DIDNT take advantage of early adopters, you would just lose out on a percentage of profits that would become resources in the next cycle... Being ethical unfortunately doesn't pay the bills or increase profits...

It's how the market works. Take away the incentive to charge $1000+ for a phone/mini computer and they will stop immediately... Unfortunately, there are millions just in the apple camp alone that would do so for their phone... So in order for a company to stay relavant and be able to compete, they must all follow suit... There IS a break point where people will just say hell no to a price... We haven't hit that yet as sales records show...

Well that's why it's good to have manufacturers like OnePlus and to a lesser extent Google because they offer high quality products at a reasonable price. The Pixel 3 XL will most likely come in under $800 for the base model and they're widely regarded as having the best cameras in the business. Even Samsung's Galaxy S9 debuted at a respectable $700-750 price tag.

Not really... Google takes your info... They make money by you using their products... So yeah, the phone is a "respectable" price... But you're not factoring in your personal information...

OnePlus has access to Chinese manufacturing... They probably pay close to bottom dollar for that and in return they are able to undercut companies like many other Chinese companies do in practically every market... China plays the long game and so you may only consider the price of the phone now, but don't really see the price you pay later... Like not buying American made products...

I think at keast for me is will this be worth upgrading to from the V 30 as all.i see is a notch bigger screen and new camera systwm with newer processor. But same size battery. What is with that. I will wait to see if one plus 6t actually comes to tmo or pixel 3xl

I really like the boom box speaker... And they moved the jack to the bottom.... I would try to find a matte back version

I'm just talking about the actual money it costs the consumers. Not theoretical costs

Now with the $1000 priced Galaxy Note 9 officially unveiled by Samsung my attention now turns to the LG V40. This is really the device I'm looking forward to this year. To keep it short and simple my choices are simple: either I'll love the V40 and upgrade or I'll be disappointed and go for the V30. I'm already inclined to lean toward the V30 for the more dramatically wide 120 degree wide angle camera compared to the reduced 107 degree camera used in the G7. The extra degrees do make a difference to me but the added resolution kinda evens the field to some level.

But the main two things I will be looking for to see improved in the V40 is LG's use of brand new sensors for the V40's cameras and a concrete release date. With an estimated end of August launch date, I need the V40 to be available by the 21st of September as I'm going on a pretty special trip and want the best camera in my pocket to capture the journey. And that pretty much sums up whether I'll upgrade to the V40 or not. I need to know that LG has put effort into taking the cameras a level further and I need to know that I can have the phone when I need it.

Wait until the real reviews come out, right now all you see are pre-production units. LG still is the only one with a wide angel camera (front and rear), still has an audio jack, Quad DAC, micro SD slot for massive media storage, wireless charging, water resistance... They packed a lot into a phone but people are already complaining about it before it's even released, claiming the battery is too small (Snapdragon 845 + Android O is battery efficient but people are thinking it's still 2015, iPhones have much smaller battery but they are more efficient than Android, meaning battery size isn't everything). The phone was designed to be thin and lightweight, just like their other phones in the past, hence the smaller 3300 mAh battery. Clearly the phone isn't for everyone and we should be thankful for the choices we have and that not all phones are the same thing, which would've been boring. I think it will all come down to price.. if you are willing to pay the higher price for the V40, then you should just get it. If you think it's not worth it, then get a V30, V30+, or V35 (which has newer SD 845). Also, screen protector installation will be a lot easier on the V40 because they addressed that issue with the curved screen not allowing people to install glass screen protectors on the V30 (unless you buy the expensive tools to glue the screen on). If you don't use screen protectors, then the V30 should be fine..

FYI, I've tried the front selfie of the V30 and it was horrendous compared to the V20.. seems like they downgraded the selfie camera.. probably to save on production costs? Not only is the wide angle POV reduced, the picture quality is reduced as well with heavy pixelation and ugly color reproduction. Try the phone out in the store first.

This is a different LG. The people that have the phones have production units as there was no "this is pre release software" during any of the reviews. Heck they're even releasing the V40 in the quickest timeframe I've seen. The SD845 has been terrible on every flagship released this year and that's why the Note 9 with 4000mAh is still outlasted easily by the V30. I just think it might be time to say farewell to LG for a little while. It depends on the battery life and camera features of the Pixel 3 now. I know the smaller one will be less than $700-750. I like the V40 but LG should've kept the size closer to the V30 and went with a huge battery. If the Pixel 3 has enough software tricks for the single lens camera that's what I'll go with(they at least gotta match Apple with stereo recording). If not then I'll get the V30 and throw on the Pixel mod and be happy.

We're talking Chinese phones vs Korean phones.. There aren't any phones built in USA.

Nope. I've seen it at least once. Not sure which review, it was on YouTube. I've watched several so I can't remember, but it definitely happened.

Edit: And the Android Authority podcast said it's pre-release as well.

From Qualcomm:
"Mobile performance meets power in our most efficient design yet.
We made our most powerful mobile platform even better. The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Mobile Platform is intelligently redesigned to deliver premium smartphone experiences thanks to new, power-efficient architectures across all major computational engines. That means a 30% improvement in gaming and XR experiences, camera performance, even extended battery life. And with the ability to charge from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes, our Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform delivers the mobile freedom you’ve been waiting for."

From LG to Pixel is a complete 360, with completely different experiences and features. If the features of the current V20 isn't useful to you, then the Pixel should be a fine power performer. I absolutely need a headphone jack, micro SD slot, and wide angle.. don't really care if the software sucks or updates slow, hardware is hardware. No doubt, the Pixel 3 will have an excellent camera, but the phone is too basic for me and that notch is absolutely horrendous.

The notch is horrendous and that's why I'm getting the smaller Pixel 3, if I get it. I can make a few changes for a great experience in a nice form factor which the Pixel 3 will have and V30 has. And I still have my V10 as a backup device or for the DAC but I could do just fine with a nice pair of premium over the ear headphones in the $300 range. But despite Qualcomm's claims the SD845 is power hungry and not as efficient as the SD835. All marketing talk.

Maybe once but I've watched a bunch if V40 videos and I haven't noticed that being the overwhelming theme so they might have said it out of old habit.

Out of old habit? If ANYONE says that out of habit they should be fired. Mind your p's and q's. These guys are pros. At least the ones I regard as reputable.

It would happen with LG devices though. Trust me. But those two videos they don't mention it. Neither does this one.

Here's the Pixel 3. Extremely ugly and not really exciting (compared to all other flagships), single camera still and only 4GB RAM. There's absolutely no question about "Do I need a wide angle camera?" YES, I do need it! I've shot at least half my photos with the wide angle, especially group photos and landscape shots.

Looks like the Pixel 3 will use dual front cameras like the V40 but only a single rear. Plus again, no headphone jack or micro SD.. which I've used every single day for the past decade. Google has good, yet basic software/hardware. If you use none of those features mentioned, then the Pixel 3 might be best for you. BTW the GCam will likely be ported over to the V40, so the V40 will get the benefit of the Google camera software. Looks like the phone was made by LG yet again, just like the Pixel 2 XL, meaning the hardware is in fact LG, but different software.

You can get the Note 9, but keep in mind the thickness and weight compared to the V40, it's significantly heavier and thicker, which might be a problem for those who like minimal.

I already know this. I know about all the differences between devices as I've owned both the V10 and V20 so I'm very aware of the compromises and advantages of each.

Again, I've heard reputable sources say it's pre-release. Just because you haven't heard it doesn't mean it's not true. Don't make assumptions.
How am I making assumptions? All I did was link you to three different videos where they make it a point to mention that. But ok I hear you.

And I told you about the Android Authority podcast. I'm sorry I can't remember the video. I'll go through my YouTube history, but I'm kinda busy right now. It's LG.
