Discuss Tips to Maximize Battery Life Here!

we are talking about leaving WIMAX/4G on all the time since in theory you could use it "all the time". the big benefits of 4G is obviously the SPEED but also the simultaneous Voice+Data.

agreed on wifi to only turn it on when needed (if ever).

I think you'd probably be better off doing exactly the opposite, at least when in range of a WiFi hotspot. Turn off 4G reserving it only for times when you need the speed and don't have WiFi access. WiFi lets you have voice/data at the same time, and almost certainly uses less power than 4G.

Obviously if you spend most of your time in range of 4g and out of range of wifi, I'd change my recommendation. But if you've got WiFi access, it's almost certainly less power hungry.

We're going to be inundated with real-world reports of how users in different areas are seeing their batteries run down. For me, I'll be running the Evo either at home or at work, both in strong wifi zones, and I don't live in a 4G area right now. I'll only have the option of 3G, and I'll only be using that when I'm out on the town. I'm also pretty miserly with screen brightness, apps, etc., and my phone will (regrettably) be sitting idle for a lot of the day anyway. I expect to get more than a couple of days between charges if I forget to plug in for the night.

1. turn off 4G.
2. turn off WIFI
3. turn off hotspot.
4. Turn screen brightness to low. (put setting under checkmark)
5. Settings Wireless and Networks, Wi-Fi Settings, <menu button> Advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy, Never.
6. turn off all haptic feedback - keys, keyboard, etc.
7. log out of Google Talk.

This may sound extremely silly, but i can't for the life of me figure how to turn off all haptic feedback, specifically on the keyboards...what am i doing wrong? Or can you just not turn off haptic feedback on keyboards

Call me crazy, but I bought this phone to use it. If I'm going to mimic BB then I'd have bought a BB. I leave everything on and just kill some tasks with ATK here and there and I'm getting a full day. That's more than fine with me. :)

From the article, only steps 6 and 8 are really going to make any appreciable difference without having significant impact on the usability of the phone.

Having Wi-fi on whenever possible saves a LOT of battery, and some apps are more efficient than others. I've gotten my EVO to use ~18% every 8 hours when on standby, which is comparable to my Pre after some screenstate CPU hacks. Very happy with it.

I was feeling the same way. But there is another option that you have to uncheck to turn it off on the keyboards as well. settings > language and keyboard > touch input > text input > uncheck vibrate while typing.

Auto sync and battery life?

I was wondering today why my gmail wasn't always being pushed right to my phone and i realized that auto sync was turned off. I have been getting great battery life all day long, do you think that auto sync I'll effect the battery life a lot or not really?

I do have Twitter and facebooko tied into the phone as well but i would Like to get my notifications when they happen...any input on this?

It seems with auto sync off my email does it get pushed through sly that well...is there somewhere i can changed to frequency of my email pushes and that's all?

I really don't need all my widgets updated automatically for me all the time

i think i'm going to turn off news and stock autosync for battery life savings since i dont use those features. it's only syncs every 4 hours but why bother?

thoughts?

I agree with everything you have listed except #13.

Only OLED devices would benefit from a darker (black) background as black pixels are turned off. On other screens, such as the EVO's, every pixel is ON regardless of the color. Right?

I was using 50% of these tips and my battery life was not bad, but a couple of more are even better (especially the most battery saving one ;) ). Interestingly, soon after I bought the phone, it seems like Sprint has pushed through an update (which I suspect optimizes battery life by using some of the energy-saving settings, like push-synchronization for all those friend streams etc.) Did you guys get this update, too?

If you have poor battery life try this!

settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks and to uncheck "enable always-on mobile data"

reports of HUGE improvements!
