I know it is mentioned several times throughout the threads, but I think every thread that has anything to do with rooting should have something like the following in bold caps, perhaps several times, in the OP.
IF YOU ROOT YOUR PHONE, DO NOT EVER ACCEPT AN OTA UPDATE FROM SPRINT OR LG (THIS IS WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR PHONE AND IT GIVES YOU A MESSAGE ABOUT SOFTWARE UPDATE PENDING, NEEDED, ETC. THE LEAST THAT COULD HAPPEN IS YOUR ROOT ACCESS IS REMOVED AND IT MAY BE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT BACK. THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A CUSTOM RECOVERY, OR MODIFIED ROM, IS YOU COULD PERMANENTLY BRICK YOUR PHONE. IF YOU DO THIS FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S PHONE MAKE SURE THEY GET AND UNDERSTAND THE SAME WARNING. IF YOU GET AN OTA UPDATE NOTICE, COME BACK TO THE FORUMS AND READ THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF POSTS ABOUT THE UPDATE BEFORE DECIDING WHAT TO DO. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS WARNING IS ABOUT READ THROUGH THE STICKIES AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ATTEMPTING BEFORE RETURNING TO ROOT YOUR PHONE.
flash_image.zip is a utility to flash images onto your phone. You don't "boot to it". In the context of this thread, you run that program and give it a recovery partition image to flash as a parameter. You guys are posting as though we want to continue with the same ROM but waht if we want to switch back to the old rom....dow we just download the flash_image.zip file from the sticky on how to unroot and boot to it?
I think the problem here is you're thinking like a PC. Android is not a PC, it's linux. This is not a ghost image of your PC like you use in windows. It is, rather, just an image of simple things like apps installed and so on. Not an entire image of how your phone is at said state of making backup. You're confusing a titanium (insert whatever app name here) backup with a nandroid backup.I THINK that is the main function of Titanium backup. not entirely sure, but in the pc world, that would be the idea.... archive a bit-for-bit image of the system while in good condition, and when needed, zap the drive and reload the backup image.
what I have not understood yet about Titanium is how to push that recovery from PC to a derelict handset....
We're pretty sure. Rest assured in knowing the easiest path is always tried first. I am not one to take people at face value so feel free to try z4root with the understanding it's not going to work and you'll need to follow to instructions in the OP afterwards.are you sure there is no way to root your phone with the z4root if u updated it?
I just downloaded the ThundeROM 1.8 and Im trying to flash it onto my LG Optimus S but it says that system/lib/libopencore_common.so is corrupt so it wont finish the task...any ideas anyone? ive been trying this literally all day and have got the same error...
