Discussion For - Root, Recovery, ROM without touching a computer

The Latest release for ThundeROM is 1.8.3 ---- Here

And it's a solid ROM but it will not longer be updated. I recommend nameless ROM. It's very solid and will continue to be updated.

that first link doesnt work. When i dl'ed from that link, it wouldnt go through on mediafire. I spent about 5 hours trying to figure out the rest of the nandroid backup/custom rom puzzle til I ended up here. I seen the namelessROM but you have to do extra steps, and seeing as how im a noob with ROM's I wanted to start off with something that has great results:)

What you CAN do is just flash nameless rom like you would any other rom and run it for awhile until you get used to it. Then when you are comfortable, follow the rest of the instructions for flashing the noIQagent_patch. It just removes a program that LG and sprint had embedded into this phone. All the ROMS before nameless had it and they run fine.

But if you are stuck on trying ThundeROM. Then I'd keep trying to download 1.8.3

No problem. Just make sure you have a nandroid backup before you flash anything. So if you do have any issues you can revert. Also I will say that if you follow the instructions carefully you will find that the extra step really is not that hard. :) And then you can enjoy the ROM the way it was truly meant to be enjoyed. Just take your time.

I need to know what I'm doing wrong. I followed the steps in the ROOTING, RECOVERY. & FLASH ROM WITHOUT A COMPUTER. I am rooted but am having trouble w/recovery. I followed all the steps & it's not working. It's saying it can't find the file image and can't find recovery file. I don't know why, I followed all the steps and yes the files are on the root of the sd card.

just one problem , im unable to flash thundeROM !! :( :( thats all i want, to be able to flash custom rom ! i have custm recovery the ar_ramon...... one... and it was pretty easy... just one line.. bt can flash thundeROM ! :( sum problem abt busybox.. but i have latest busy box !!
:'(

I can't even get past the custom recovery install. can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

#mount -o remount,rw /system /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin flash_image
cannot create /system/bin: is a directory

I used /system /system in place of -t yaffs2 /dev/block/ mtdblock5 /system because it wasn't working following your tutorial and on page 2 somebody suggested doing that and worked finally so I'm now on the second line and now that's failing.

I didn't get that particular error, but I did have to go through it a couple of times to get it right. I would just try it again and watch your spacing. Sometimes I would/wouldn't put a space where one was needed/not needed.

First glance it looks like you are missing a slash

check out that second line - # cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin flash_image

in particular look at the last bit '/system/bin flash_image
replace that space after bin with a slash and give that a shot

Ok, I used this method to put a custom recovery and flash a rom to my own Optimus but when I tried to use this for a friend's, I reboot to recovery and it's just a black screen. I did it multiple times and it still doesn't give me a recovery image. When I get to the black screen, I can hit the menu button and have it reboot. It's like it's there but it's not visible. Any suggestions?

That phone has the new lcd drivers. Install the latest xionia recovery, that issue was fixed in that release.
