Yes. I used the gingerbreak.apk to root my Optimus on version ZVD.

and i can put a custom recovery on, also?

Yes, You can root it using gingerbreak, then pick up from the next step. You can try using the recovery found in this thread, but I would recommend the Xionia recovery found here instead: http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...covery-xionia-clockwork-cwma-v1-2518-6-a.html. It works for all LCDs.

You'll want to follow the instructions in that thread but you can do that through the Terminal Emulator app on your phone. Then come back here and follow the steps for flashing a ROM. If you have any questions, let me know!

Ok all, ill post this again since it didnt want to let me last time ( cuz i wasnt logged in, lmfao )
Anywhoooooo

So i followed all the steps, rooted my phone, checked, and it was rooted.
I used Astro manager, and Android terminal.
I did the recovery,backup and rom ( rom i used was reborn ROM 2.2.4 )
everything went smoothly, and it sat on lg splash for a few mintues, then the Reborn splash came up,And loaded my screen,just fine..so i waited
and then i Rebooted the phone, and thats when everything went south...
It started up, and sat on the lg splash for 2 hours... Flashing every 10 seconds..
then my backup didnt work, ( finally got it to work after 8 tries ) now im back to my normal phone.. got it re rooted again, and i know it works, cuz im using barnacle right now on my laptop..

Long story short.....WHERE DID I GO WRONG?
btw, im new to Android world.. and i need some help!
im one who hates to ask for help. but, id rather ask then screw my self. lol.

Did you wipe your phone before the flash? I would try to wipe and reflash. Can you get into recovery? Is it stock or custom?

Yea wiped all 3 it told me to..
Reflashed and it did the same thing but didn't bring up the
new rom splash at all.
Should I maybe try a different rom ?

What does your recovery screen look like? I would say maybe try to redownload the file and put it on the root of your SD card again and see if that helps. Could be a bad download.

well i was using the recovery from this post. i want to try the one you mentioned i just cant get it to download directly to my phone.. ive tried from the post, but it says my phone dont support that file type

I did the recovery install exactly right, but it still is the same as before. My only options are:

1. reboot system now
2. apply sdcard:update.zip
3. wipe data/factory reset
4. wipe cache partition

It also have a triangle with an "!" above a little droid guy. Any help?

You're still on stock recovery. You will want to try again and make sure to use the Xionia recovery. It's for newer LCDs.

My phone turns on, sprint logo flashes, then the word "android" Thats it, 5min go by and it goes black. My computer says it is an unknow device. I cant do anything, how can I load a custom recovery when it is a BRICK!? It is a softWARE issue. I read that I can re-install the O/S froyo 2.2.2. I can not locate this one file - LS679ZVC_11.SC_11.P60674.cab does anyone have a clue?please help - pb5525@live.com

i got my phone in december 2010 if that helps.. i cant find it on google on how to tell, or when they started the new lcd's. so i know witch recovery to try

I would assume older. I bought my phone at the same time and have the older ones. It sounds like the thunderc recovery is working fine with your phone, but you're having issues with the ROM file. Did you try to redownload and move it to the root of your SD card, without extracting it?

Why the NecroBump? What version are you on? If it's zvd, zvc, zvh, or zvj, this won't work (I don't think)

If your on zvd and back you can download gingerbreak from its xda thread and use it to root without a pc.

As for flashing recovery, you can use flash_image and terminal.

You can download the stock zvd update.zip and flash it in stock recovery, it will downgrade you to a root able version.
