Discussion of the Fascinate root How-To

Just rooted my phone for the first time using the adb method. Was easier then I thought it would be.

Now the hard part is gonna be getting some froyo'd voodoo roms onto my phone.

Now I have a couple of questions:

1. Will my SD card get formatted?
2. What will happen to my phone contacts and if they will disappear when I mess around with new ROMs, what should I use to back everything up? Is it titanium backup?

No your card wont get wiped.
there are alot of ways to back up your contacts...

i would def use titanium back up

also you can export to SD
From contacts press menu button>import/export>Export to SDcard

also you can sync gmail contacts
Settings>accounts & Sync>check off auto sync>then select your gmail account lower in that screen>then check off contacts and let it sync
then go online and check your contacts secton of your gmail account to make sure it was a good sync

you can also use Backup assistant
Settings>accounts & Sync>backup assistant>backup

ok so this is my first android phone (I've had it for about 3 months) so I am COMPLETELY new to rooting. I noticed on post #2 that this process will work with DI01, DJ05, and DL09 builds. There was that little emergency call fix OTA like a week or so ago and it changed the build to EA28, so I was wondering if this process will still work? Thx

yes it will work with EA28 but , if you use my odin package for froyo, you will have froyo and root all in one shot

ok so it says it will wipe all data, what do I use to backup and does backing up data save everything? like will it backup my high score in Doodle Jump or my preferences in Plume?

ah ok so if you want to save stuff like that you need to either purchase mybackup pro i believe it works without root if purchased or root and use Titanium backup... you can backup your phone numbers to gmail.....i dont worry about data like that so i just wipe at will

you can get both of those apps in the market.

ok so I've tried the one click method countless times with no luck, the only thing that I assume I'm doing wrong is not disabling media sync but this is all that shows up when I connect my phone

the adb method, i was having trouble at first but then i realized my mistakes and it went smoothly

yeah they are all pretty easy , i think viewing the methods as overwhelming usually holds people up . but once you get past those feelings its easy breezy

Congrats:D

After reading all the replys in this form, I feel some what comfortable with
doing a root, I like to learn as much as possible before doing something like this, rooting my fascinate, like to know more about Odin, where to get it
This seems like a good tool to use to get your computer and phone to
work togather, also I have a question, I think i know the answer just wanted to be sure, what mounted and unmounted SD card?
Flashing what does that mean (downloading?)
My main goal is to tether to my computer up at the cabin Internet.
Using my fascinate, I posted in another part of this site on what driver
to use 32 or 64 bit, I have no idea what my computer is, how do i find out.
I'm not too tech savvy, but willing to learn!
Have a great day to all
Pat

I must be missing something .

I have fascinate with an ea28 build. I have tried one click and adb roots with no luck. One click almost gets the job done it just won't do the final exploit. When I tried the adb way my lap.top.said adb wasn't recognized as a batch command or something like that. I have to reboot my phone and laptop in order for my laptop to recognize my phone after reboot. How the heck do you disable media sync? I haven't got that error message yet but that might be my problem.

you shouldnt need to reboot the laptop to get it recognized you should just reboot the phone while still plugged in....... so try this

pull the battery on the phone , put it back in , then connect your phone to the computer, make sure the computer recognizes it

then start one click...after the first reboot unlock the phone, it needs to be awake the wole time during rooting.... you may have to pull the cable off and reconnect it to get it recognized once you are sure its connect then hit any key to continue

you should consider moving up to froyo

Thanks for the help if I can get this to root I will definitely try something better than stock.

I still can't get it to recognize the phone after reboot. I will try one more.thing if that doesn't work I will go with. Odin
