Go here to find a version of Kies that will work for you.

Re: Samsung Captivate Kies USB Drivers Windows - problem solved..Options

Make sure you have downloaded the 'myphoneexplorer' client app from the android market first. you will need to have that launched in order for it to connect to the device. Once you open My Phone Explorer on your computer, go to "File" and "Settings". In the window that appears, go to "Sync" in the left taskpane. There should be dropdowns for 'Contacts' and 'Calendar' ---> make sure "Outlook" is selected. You can control how the device syncs with outlook (sync both, computer overrides device, or device overrides computer) by clicking on the "Advanced" buttons.

Once that is set, hit "OK" to go back to the main screen. You have a couple of options to connect the device to the compueter: via wifi or the USB cable. If you choose wifi, you have to make sure the wifi is activated on the device. If you choose the USB, you have to go to the settings on the device (from home screen) --> "Applications" --> "Development" and click on the "USB debugging" to enable it. I personally think the wifi is easier and less of a hassle. After you have the connections configured, on the computer - hit the F1 key or click "File" then "Connect". I've noticed that if my captivate has gone into lock mode, it won't connect - so I make sure the device is "awake" when I'm connecting it. You should see status bar as it connects and it will disapper when done. at the bottom of the main window - it will let you know if the device is connected.

you have to sync the calendar and contacts seperately, and log into Outlook to give the program access. The contacts are usually the first thing that are visible in the right of the window on the computer, after launching the program. Click the blue sync button at the top left and it should do its thing. Another window usually appears in the process with the conflicts, asking you what you want to do (sync both, delete from phone, delete from outlook). After that is done, click on the "Organizer" (aka calendar) and the view of the contacts on the right of the window should change to the calendar view. Just click the sync button again, etc.

Hope that helps.

Because my website is through Windows Live my business email domain is actually Hotmail (though not a @Hotmail.com domain). After setting it up on my Captivate using Hotmail's POP3 settings (found online) my email comes through faster on the Captivate than Outlook alerts me to it on my PC.

I was unable to use Kies to synch my Outlook contacts & calender but will further experiment with it including raven71's above instructions.

I did download Deja Office (free) from the Marketplace and a 14 day free trial of Companion Link ($40) on my PC which did sync Outlook contacts & calender.

So you can sync Outlook, the question is can you do it for free using Kies or do you need to pay $40 for the Companion Link software?

Another program I downloaded from the Marketplace was NoLED which alerts you to incoming email, vm, text and missed phone calls when your Captivate is in the sleep mode and you are away from your phone. It has colored icons and settings for vibrate and sound alert for those items. I also downloaded Captivate Keep Alive from the Marketplace but I haven't experimented with it to determine if it has any effect on the NoLED program's performance.

I used the noLed for awhile but found it drained the battery. I get the email icon when mail comes in and have got use to not having led lights flashing. Have not tried keep alive.

I downloaded a program called gSyncit for $14.99 that syncs my contacts, calendar, notes and tasks. Everytime I close Outlook, it automatically syncs my calendar and contacts from my work email account to my Gmail account (2 different accounts). That way I always have my most up-to-date calendar on my work computer and my phone without having to change everything every time I flash a new ROM - everything is there in Gmail. Works great - been using it since August.

Seems there are quite a few 9700 and Captivate owners, myself being one.

I do miss my berry, but I won't be going back completely any time soon. It's nice to have around, but I'm sticking with my Captivate.
