Display occasionally dims slightly (without auto brighness selected)

Does anyone ever notice their display very slightly... but noticeably... suddenly dim when on battery and viewing content? I have "auto" brightness turned off. It happens when on battery but in theory it should not dim on its own. Adaptive display is also turned on but again this should not affect screen brightness. I believe it happens in Chrome but possibly in other apps as well. It's pretty random. It happened on my Note 5 as well. I guess it's normal but I'd love to understand why it's happening.

Is it when your battery is low'ish? Maybe your battery saving is doing it.

I asked the same question on here about 2 weeks ago and didnt really get a clear answer. I think it happens because adaptive display says it may not be compatible with third party apps. This is the only thing I could think of.

The screen auto dims when the phone gets warm enough. Safety feature.....lol

And in this case, the screen dimming seems like a better option than the phone starting on fire when it gets too warm
