Do you guys buy Samsung’s excuse about the battery size?

So I know the big point of contention with the Note 8 is the size of the battery and Samsung’s explanation is that there simple wasn’t enough room for a bigger battery due to the silo for the S-Pen.

My question is do you guys buy this excuse or is it simply them dodging the obvious that they are being overly cautious because they don’t want to risk another explosive controversy?

To me I’d rather them be upfront and honest then trying to gloss it over because of what happened last year. Especially since the Note 7 has a bigger battery and it was smaller than the Note 8.

I would say yes -- There is only so much room. Sure could they have attempted to squeeze in a slightly bigger one? I bet they could have but should they take that disk after something so soon (a.k.a the next phone) after the one that got "exploding" hype in the news? Na.

I would assume that there could have been at least 10 ways to include a bigger battery, and they just didn't want to for whatever reasons. I would certainly imagine they could add width to the device, thickness, move components around, or any number of other things. But I am pretty sure they were wanting to play it ultra safe, and I can't completely blame them.

If you asked 100 Note 7 owners if they would have preferred a slightly smaller battery and been able to have a safe device that they could still have today, or to get a slightly larger one and end up how it did, 98-99 would say yes, all day long.

Oh I’m sure. I know one of my coworkers had the Note 7 and was so upset about having to send it back.

I just don’t know why Samsung can’t be upfront about the smaller battery size instead of this beat around the bush answer.

Yeah it's a good question. I don't think anyone REALLY buys the S pen silo thing, because the Note 7 had an S pen also and had a bigger battery in a smaller chassis. Obviously that led to the issues, but it can be done. This device has added thickness (.03) and if that wasn't enough they could have increased that until it was. I'm okay with it though right now. We'll see how it is in a few months.

I, for one, am absolutely thrilled that they're being overly cautious. We don't need another Note 7 debacle.

If you open up a cell phone there really isn't any extra space going unused. I believe a bigger battery would of resulted in a thicker phone.

I think they only did it so that when the Note 13 comes out glued to a car battery everyone will be so happy for the bigger battery that can last 194hrs SOT. I want mine in coral blue!!

I don't care. Give me my Note. I only use my phone for phone stuff, text messages, FB, Flipboard, camera stuff and various social media apps. I don't listen to music or watch movies on my phone. I'm Good!

This doesn't really bother me too much since I know many big companies aren't always upfront about a lot of things. I was definitely hoping for a bigger battery on the Note 8, but for my everyday use, it's good enough.

I'm usually next to a charger so I rarely see my battery go down below 30%. And if I know I'll be away from a wall or car charger most of the day, I'll just bring my Anker power bank or use one of these extended battery cases...

It was a perfectly reasonable explanation IMO especially when you factor in how overly cautious they will be with the battery for the Note 8.

As someone else said, they probably could have found a number of ways to squeeze in a slightly larger battery, but they aren't going to be taking chances.

At first I didn't but then I watched a vid on youtube and a guy took it apart and showed how to replace the battery if it fails. They would basically have to redesign the phone in order to install a larger capacity battery i.e. make it wider. So I understand why but I still wouldn't have mind if they would have widen it a bit but maybe the N9 might do that.

Well I'm not sure reminding the public about battery fires is such a great idea while launching a new phone. I don't blame them one bit. They're are still running a business.

You gotta understand, they are looking for ways to put a bigger battery in, but these things aren't done over night, hell the new note is already in design phase and will probably be in testing by February of next year...

Having said that, they wanted to keep a similar design to the Note 7 that was safe, and have it fit in with a body closest to the S8 design... they would have to deviate from the design in a major way, so they decided to play it on the safe side

Sammy still shook about the battery mistake.
They're engineers may make you wait through 3 more phones until that's corrected completely. Besides losing a phone, they just can't afford to have someone injured, killed or severe property damage. Don't worry in year or so you'll see a 4,000 mah battery in their Notes and other Flagships.
