Do you use always on display?

I also realized at the end of the day 1%/hour wasn't worth it. After a full day of work that is 10-15% extra battery life I could have without it and for me that's more important than always being able to see the time. Also the edge notifications takes up some battery life as some have tested as they keep capacitive sensors activated. Overall I've disabled the always on mode, the edge notifications, and the edge side panel as I really did not use them and found them to be more annoying/take up battery life. I'm happy with my edge's "purpose" to be for pure aesthetics. I got the edge model primarily for the bigger battery life + larger screen and because I really enjoy the aesthetics of the edge.

Agreed. Used it for about a week then turned it off. Might use it if it worked with Textra and Mailwise, and had current weather. Otherwise it's not just worth the 15% or so per day. 1% per hour doesn't sound like much of a battery hit until you add it up over the course of the day.

Samsung should add double tab to wake the screen. Or I can slide from the lock screen without to press home button.

I upgraded from a G2 and loved the double-tap feature (particularly with the power button on the back of the phone!) The paid version of Nova Launcher will let you program a double-tap gesture to wake or close the screen.

I wonder what kind of battery impact that feature will have. Maybe I will enable it today and see.

I just disabled Always On again, downloaded the Google Clock so I have a clock as a screensaver option (there wasn't one in Daydream), and I think that's how I'll roll. Probably saved a touch of battery and have the bedside clock I need.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of a truly always on display. I love the implementation on Motorola phones or the Nexus 5X/6P. I prefer being able to move the phone a bit or pick it up to activate a basic clock and notification interface. Also, not being able to interact with the always on display feels strange to me. It really, really looks like you should be able to tap or swipe on notifications to turn on the display.

I thought that would be an issue for me too coming from the Moto X but it really hasn't. Also the Moto X would sometimes be finicky and not want to display the time. Liking my S7 much better.

There is a toggle in the quick settings!

Exactly... I use the toggle to turn it on when I want to have it. Off at night... Don't need it while sleeping.
Fantastic option.

i use the calendar mode, having the month available whenever i look at my phone has been pretty handy for me.

haven't really noticed much impact on battery either.

How can I set up double tab to wake with nova launcher?

If you have the paid "Prime" version, you go into "Nova Settings\Gestures and Inputs\Double Tap". You do have to download a Screen Off app, and you program the double tap to execute the app, which turns off the screen.

I found that acDisplay works really well. With this app, I don't have to wake up the phone to view the notifications. I can just view the notification without waking the phone. There are also more configuration settings as well.

I find it to be useless just sitting there with a clock and nothing to interact with. Samsung also has to allow these features to work with more third party apps right out of the box, instead of trying to force everyone to use their stock apps. It's pretty evident tons of people have no interest in doing so.

I turn it on and off as needed (on when it's convenient to use the phone as a quick glance clock, off at all other times).

I like the idea of having a clock there all the time, but I totally agree with the 3rd party apps. Nobody is going to switch to using Samsung mail or messenger just because they can get a notification on the AOD. It's completely ridiculous that they put in that restriction, especially after Moto has already set the precedent for years of allowing any app to use their active display.
