Do you use always on display?

It gives you notifications for Samsung apps yes but I guess I was referring to the people who say it should be interactive. And I disagree with that because I don't think that's the purpose of it. The fact that you can't even interact with the Samsung apps clearly shows it wasn't meant to be some interactive thing. It's just a clock and some info to keep you from waking up your device a bunch of times throughout the day

Right, but still stupid and lacking if it won't accept 3rd party apps. The two reasons I check my phone is to see the time and if I have notifications. I hate sitting there waiting to see if the LED is blinking. And the only Samsung app I use is the dialer, so I guess I'll get missed call notifications? Nobody is going to switch over to Samsung apps from Google apps because of the AOD, so why try to force the issue? And why does Samsung even care if people are using their messenger or email app??

I don't care if I can't interact from the AOD screen because I still have to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone either way. I just want it to show if I have a new gmail or hangouts chat.

would be great if all notifications appeared on AOD... hopefully they will in the near future

Can't please everyone. If that's super important to you, you should've gotten a moto x or something. I still stand by my opinion that it's just there to keep you from waking your device all the time. And the audacity of Samsung. To display samsung apps...on their phones..by default...right?

I don't know, but maybe some of us are just explaining our answer to the thread's question. Try not to take it personally.

If we are trying to draw consensus on this question, it is impossible. Just like the list of endless features in Android, this is yet another addition. Some use it, some may not. And it is in everyone's right to hold their positios because we all have our priorities and likes.
I work in a different country than my home country. AOD has a feature to display dual clock. Believe me, it really suits me now that I don't have to calculate the time difference before calling my parents or relatives. So it is a good feature for me. I don't see a big drain on my battery given that I play a lot of games (small games, not too heavy) and I get around 24-28 hours on a single charge.

I doubt anybody expects consensus. Sometimes somebody else's idea or experience is helpful to hear.

i have to agree.... not knocking the phone and i do use AOD but it will be nice to see it expanded... and it will... just as the edge apps have, i do get text notifications using either sammys app or verizons message+ i'm sure it's only a mater of time before hangouts and textra and others work as well

Moto Droid Turbo (et al) have a feature where the screen responds to motion and displays the lock screen clock. I think it can show more info, but I leave just the clock. Nice without having the screen always on to drain the battery

I have a problem with that
Every android alarm I use is no more working after a too long time on "always on display"
Even with the classic android alarm (on samsung G7)
If I but the phone in sleep mode and the alarm is working 10 minutes later, every thing is ok
If it's 4 hour later, the alarm doesn't wake the phone from the always on display mode
I have to quit the "always on display" mode, and then, yes the alarm rings

Another thing I don't like about the Always On feature is that it requires an extra action to get in to the phone itself (unless you don't use a lock screen at all).

This was also the case when I had the best version of this functionality on my Moto phones, buit that was so well done it was worth it. The lack of third party functionality makes the clock alone not worth it to me on the S7E. Hopefully they make the feature more robust.
No. Just hold the home button down and the fingerprint will unlock. I guess there is a second step only if you don't use fingerprints. But that is not extra.

It's a cool feature and I use it. Some of you say that it doesn't work like the moto version and it doesn't have extra functionality, when that's not what it was intended for. It's a clock that shows you the time and date, that's it. It isn't lacking anything because it wasn't meant to do anything else. Its just taking advantage of the amoled screen and giving you quick info. not trying to get you to your notifications.

I definitely agree. I absolutely love this feature. I don't have to constantly wake up my phone to see what time it is at work. It's so convenient. Also, not a big deal at all for me that it only shows the time. That's what it's meant for. It's an awesome feature that I love most about my phone.

I don't use it anymore, none of the apps I use each day offer notifications on it. After having the og moto x, I'm spoiled with this kind of thing and unfortunately Samsung's version doesn't seem to really do anything useful

I use it during the day with the "night clock" enabled at night and like it. I do wish that it allowed 3rd party app communication though. Until then I'll just keep using the Samsung apps, which aren't terrible by any means. Those that complain about it draining the battery overnight, you could always just leave your phone face down so it turns it off...

I tried it for a while on my S7, I find it distracting because when the minutes change, there is a small flicker in the screen so I just turned it off. To each his own offcourse :)

I'll put this as kindly as I can: I use this feature because my phone with a calendar always on looks a lot cooler than your phone with just a blank screen.

I used it for a while, but found it pretty useless. I'm rarely far enough from a clock, computer or watch that I need to check the time on my phone, the calendar display doesn't tell you anything but what day it is, and it only provides notifications from a few Samsung apps. And even those aren't reliable. For some reason, it just stopped displaying any notifications.

If it reliably showed notification from any app I wanted to include, it might be worth something.

don't know what they're talking about. I have AOD on 24/7 and my S7e loses less than 0.5% per hour overnight when laid on its face.

Laying it on its face effectively turns AOD off, so you're not seeing the battery drain AOD causes when it's on.

Wouldn't the inclusion of a multi dimensional display with all the bells and whistles people are asking for, cause the same kind of battery drain the same people would be complaining about? That's all I would need is some rouge third party app killing my battery.

Seems like a big irony to me. I'm happy Samsung kept it simple here.
