Do you use NFC? Would you trade?

Okay, can someone tell me where I can get these tags? I would LOVE to have some, but don't know where to purchase. I see NFC stickers in 10 packs on eBay for about $10US (where I live). These seems like it'd be pretty cheap, so I'm a bit worried about integrity. Then again, I've not bought any of these before, so I have no idea.

Anyone have any thoughts? Is this in line with what I should be seeing? I'd really LOVE to get this set up for my girlfriend and I (she and I both of HOX's and I have a Nexus 7).

I got mine from www.tagstand.com . But there are a few others out there. I paid $1.40 a price for the outdoor ones. They are made with a heavier coating and are water resistant.

I shall need the outdoor ones if I'm to use them in my car, I think, considering the Texas heat in the summer can melt just about anything left in the car. Thanks for the link, I really appreciate it. :D

No prob. That's why I went with the outdoor ones too.
Also the outdoor ones are anti metal as well. Which means you can put them right on metal without any interference. I put one on the garage door I go outside from, works perfect.

Just curious -- what do you have it programmed to do when you go to the garage?

Where I work, I barely get a cell signal inside the office. I put one at the door so when I go in, I tap it, and it turns WiFi on and lowers all tones to silent. When I go back out, I tap it and it turns WiFi off and increases the volumes to max. Their WiFi barely reaches outside so its a pain to leave WiFi on all the time, it will keep bouncing between WiFi and 4G. Its also nice to have the volume go to silent. Its more professional. I hate hearing all kinds of tones going off at work. No one needs their phone for their job, so to me its just makes them look unprofessional IMO.

That's cool. I own a small hotel, and one of the biggest pains is giving out the WiFi password, and then dealing with connectivity problems. (Usually some clueless goober using an ancient laptop running XP, but not always.)

I want to set up an NFC dot in the lobby that tech savvy folks can use to automatically configure their devices to connect to our wifi when they check in, and your setup sounds perfect. I didn't realize that you could set these tags up to make wifi (and other things) toggle on and off like you're doing, so that opens up even more possibilities.

Thanks!

I ordered the 15 piece "hobby" starter set from tagstand. I am STOKED. I can't wait to get them here and set up. :D

Yeah, I've got 10 of them enroute from Amazon. Can't wait!

Totally agree. I can't see myself taking the Nexus 7 out and about just to pay for things.

Agreed. For my Nexus 7, it would be nice to use it to transfer pics and stuff to another NFC device, but quite impractical to use for Wallet (although on a phone it would be great!)... But, as my wife and I can't afford to upgrade from our Optimus V's, and I don't know anyone with NFC (yet), I've never used it. I would gladly trade it for some more storage :)

Wanted to know also what program/APP do you guys use to set up your tags? Someone asked before but not sure if they were answered.
1- I'm looking for one with the most options, don't really want to switch between apps to program different tags.
2-Also what type of NFC tags do you have ? type 1,2,3 or 4?
3- Does storage play apart in how much you can do wit ha tag?

Thank you in advance for your responces

On a tablet, I would trade NFC for expandable storage. It's pretty close to useless. Especially if you have a case. NFC won't work until you remove the case.

I use nfc all the time. I started a nexus 7 craze on my campus, so I know are least 3 other people with a N7. We beam pics, URLs, apps, etc. I also have a nfc tags on my keychain and in my car. And I use Google wallet every week to either fill up my gas tank or to buy stuff from 7-11 and McDonald's.

NFC kicks ass. I would never trade it. I like making Google Wallet payments with it. The shocked and awed look on peoples faces is worth the price of admission.

Everyone says, "OMG you used your tablet to pay?!? How? I've never seen that...". Hilarious. The iSheep looked down at his iBrick in sad realization that he paid a premium for old tech that can't do that, lol. "But you have Passbook", I say, as I pat him on the shoulder and mumble, "You sorry sonofab*tch..." LOL!

(The above actually happened at Duane Reade last week with a friend of mine with his iPhone 5, the poor b@stard.)

So, NO! Never giving up NFC ever. Its just too much fun. :D

On a serious note, I use NFC to transfer files, links, photos, contact info, etc and even pair my NFC-enabled Bluetooth headset on top of making payments. Its so useful.

I would much rather have NFC on my phone than my tablet. I don't carry my tablet everywhere with me but I do my phone.

It's a plus to have on the N7 to make the device more unique, but it's not something I would use all the time. Hubby has a galaxy nexus phone but if we share anything, we normally just dropbox it. It was really awkward trying to beam each other with a phone and a tablet.. the range wasn't very far and the antenna on the N7 seemed like it was located in the center of the device, so basically he had to plaster his phone on the back of my N7 and jiggle it around a little to work.

Expandable memory isn't coming back to Nexus devices so there's no point in me "trading" anything. I'd be trading a working (but not widespread in the US) technology for something that Google has stated time and time again that they do not like and thus no AOSP device will have.

NFC does work with a case. I have a case on my Nexus S and still use NFC just fine. Also those with cases for the Nexus 7 have stated that it still works as well.

Is it possible that the iPhone 5 didn't incorporate NFC because it has a metal case, and NFC tags don't work well so near to metal? I'm really new to NFC capabilities. I just ordered my first 10-pack of tags, which should be here tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to experimenting with them on my Galaxy Nexus. Especially setting one to turn on bluetooth and Spotify when I get into the car... for starters.

I do the same thing, besides the campus craze thing. :)

Thanks for the in depth information. I have several ideas on how to use them. Some include business URL's Some include sales. Some of what I want to do calls for a more memory type tag and some don't so I guess i Would need to get both. Thanks again.
