DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Hey all, not sure where we are in conversation but I wanted to say that my droid was not the same after the update. I noticed it was sluggish while scrolling, and generally not as snappy. I couldnt take it anymore and used rsd lite to go back to an out of box state, re-rooted. I just couldn't stand it any longer. Although it was not "buggy" to speak of, It just didnt run right. With live walpapers off, and no widgets running, it was a little better. but whats the sense if these things were supposed to be some of the perks of 2.1 right? Smoked glass 6 is a 2.1 rom and its 10x better than the official. Not griping, just saying :-)

Yes we know SG6 is a ESE53 ROM and he is coming out with one for ESE81 it is faster because you can clock it higher however I am having none of this issues you describe and I'm running 2.1 ESE81 rooted. Love it.

notebly the n, k and the space bar... I txt ALOT and it doesn't do it all the time... but enuff to irritate the heck out of me!

oooo, that doesn't sound good. Take it to verizon. If 2.1 really did break it, they'll replace it

Hello everyone. I was out of town when the 2.1 update hit. I'm wanting to know if evryone that did the update is happy with it, or if they wish they hadn't done it ? I haven't had enough time to go thru all the posts....so maybe some of you that have been keeping up on what has been said, could give their honest opnion. A private message is fine too. Thanks.

Very happy with the 2.1 update. The rooted stock version was available within a day of it being released too.

General FYI - I was hesitant at first but if you have ANY issue with 2.1, boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset and cache wipe. Takes about an hour to get everything set back up.

I was having issues with programs asking for updates which I had already uninstalled, programs in the market not showing up, email was taking forever to check an IMAP account, my Picasa albums weren't showing in the new gallery app, live wallpapers were super laggy and a couple of other laggy issues with programs. I've had the phone since launch day, so it serves to reckon that some OS and cache issue compatibility problems from 2.0 to 2.01 to 2.1 would be inevitable.

Factory reset solved ALL my problems.

edit: added a couple more issues.

I must persist that point!

People; DO NOT BE SCARED OF A FACTORY RESET!

Your phone and all its settings will be restored in all their glory when you re-set it up.

This will solve lots and lots of problems. So many of you whom are having serious issues with 2.1, try a F.R. and I am sure it'll start working again.

+1 for factory reset. It was a pain in the tail having to reinstall and reconfigure all my apps, but it solved all the issues I was having.

YES, my keyboard has been giving me major problems. The typing accuracy has significantly declined, auto-correct seems to be non existant... Even typing something like a name "dylan" it will not correct it to "Dylan" like it used to. Long-press to "Save" the correction is no longer working either. Sucks!

I wish they would have included:

a "SELECT ALL" in gmail
a ability to look at archived mail in gmail
And what is this "mute" ability in gmail now?
Calendar not syncing properly, erm, AT ALL
Multiple home screens stock (Helix takes care of that one)
Not force goggles on us (even though I like it and had it before hand)
Change LED notification colors!
The ability to organize photos in the gallery in different fashions (date taken, size, and so on)
The music app to actually FIND the album art on its own (iTunes and WMP does this!)
Google needs to come out with a desktop stronghold of everything Google that seamlessly syncs with your phone (its all on websites for now)
Google wave app

I really wanted to get this thing back on track.

So.... just from reading these few posts, since I asked the question whether to do the 2.1 update or not.....it seems like it has caused problems for the ones who have done it and so maybe it's not worth doing if they are going back to "stock" or the update "before" 2.1 . ???? Would someone please list exactly what 2.1 gave you new and if that worked, and what it changed that doesnt work. This forum is to help everyone out and to discuss issues. What percent do you think likes the 2.1 update and kept it and what percent do you think doesnt like it and what percent resorted back ? Everyone, including myself, was all hyped up for this update...now that it's here and done...what's the final judgement ? Was this update still not ready to be released ? Are "patches" what we're going to be hoping for now ?

The update is fine.
It was well worth it

The 10 people here that THINK (I bet 9 of them is user error) 2.1 borked their phones are small percentage of total Droid owners.

So thats 10 out of 2,000,000 users

I had no problems with the update. It did exactly what it was advertised to do. The reason that you see problems here is because people don't complain when everything works. they only complain when there is a problem so you only hear about or see problems. But judging by the realitively few problems that have been reported, I am willing to call this update a success.

I see all of the questions about the physical keyboard w/ 2.1. I have had no issues, but, never really used it before 2.1 which brings me to my question. Is the landscape keyboard now gone with 2.1 or is there a setting? I always used to use the landscape virtual keyboard and would like it back.

I don't use the landscape keyboard, but I would assume its the same as 2.0.1..in the settings menu make sure the orientation box is checked
