DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Well, I installed the JB update, I went to Voodoo, clicked Restore Root, rebooted, and still, Device Rooted and Root Permission Granted are unchecked. Is there a step I'm missing or have I just lost root?

one of ours is like that, and reading several forums indicates it's not uncommon.

at first i thought it might be that i was using the Koush su, but . . .

I'm aware of that. She was rooted but that's what she gets for not listening. I didn't know the 22 fxz was out already. I read the other day, u said it would be sometime next week. Now if we can just get a root exploit, which is looking more and more doubtful with each passing day.

Tell me about it. I've got a RAZR HD coming my way next week and am already writing a utility to FXZ it to 4.1.2, root it, unlock the bootloader, and install TWRP recovery. I hope the Bionic does get root, but, I'm moving on.

Sam,

Just curious. Can a developer phone, or one with an unlocked bootloader, go back and install ICS or gingerbread if they wanted to for whatever reason, or would they be just as stuck as we are in going back to previous versions?

Thank you.

Unlocked phones can install whatever the hell they want. Hence why I'm moving to one. And will never again buy a phone that I can't unlock.

No. I wish I knew what the hell was causing it. I have an idea but if I'm right, I'm going to roll my eyes and sigh. I'm wondering if the temp unroot thing is what prevents people from having issues. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Well I updated the wife's bionic. Everything looked fine till it got back to the home screen after it was done. A box keeps popping up saying "unfortunately Motorola services have stopped". Like 30 or 40 times a minute.

FDR time. enjoy that.

I was afraid of that. I only updated from the SD card. Did the same to mine a couple days ago. FML..... Thanks Sam. Sorry to be a pain.

There's only one su in his dropbox.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jcpilpgoeta516e/6uw7bUWkAe/su

And yes, it'll require using ADB in a command prompt to fix it. If Voodoo refuses to restore root properly, this is the only way to do it. It's a royal pain. Especially since we went through all the steps to avoid having to do this.

EDIT: Also your su-backup should be in:

/system/usr/we-need-root/su-backup
I got the file, your link was much better. The link on the XDA page showed me 4 files, including an su and an su.c.

Now, I assume I plug my phone into the computer and have USB debugging on and MTP checked like I did when I ran the HoB software or do I need to be in some special mode with the phone? Now this ADB, is this seperate software, or when I type in ADB shell at the command prompt it takes me to the phone? If that's the case, do I just type in the things on the XDA page and will it find the su file on my C drive?

And is there any risk doing this? I mean can I brick my phone or is this something that if it doesn't work my phone is fine I merely don't have root?

So are you saying we should use temp unroot? And if so, prior to flashing?

You won't brick. You can open a command prompt to the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic\utils directory. It has ADB that you can use. You may want to copy that special su into the same directory so you can run the commands as is.

Only a theory, but, yea.

I can say that I temp unrooted before I installed 22 and had a issue regaining root as well. Got it back but I had to go through that adb shell commands in term mgr to restore, although I never updated binaries before the install either so I'm not sure myself.

Well, the su binary HAD to be updated because the older versions are not compatible with JB. So that's likely the issue you ran into.

is any one having GPS issues with the Droid Bionic. witth the new 4.1 update it wont give me my location.

My experience has been quite the opposite so far. My GPS is working better than it ever has!

However, I'm still experiencing heavy battery drain...even after turning off Now. I lost roughly 5% within an hour of the phone simply sitting idle in my pocket. Again, MEDIA was off the charts in percentages, and I wasn't even using any media!!

Really hoping this settles down because I don't enjoy spending three hours putting everything back together again after an FDR.
