DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

My apologies. I thought the su backup was created in Voodoo.

It is. But I've done some work in my House of Bionic to automate it for people but that function wasn't working. So yes, it should be done manually in Vodoo OTA Rootkeeper until the new code I put in this morning has been tested and verified working. Short version....go into Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and make SURE su is protected BEFORE taking the update. If voodoo says it's not, tell it to protect it. This is the ONLY way to guarantee keeping root through the update.

Sam I cannot express how amazed I am with the support you have provided, especially since JB hit. When you said you were planning on have some busy days for awhile I had no idea. You are a one man support staff! Thanks! :D

First off, thank you so much for having patience with me. I have never been interested in rooting before, but now that it seems JB may take away the ability unless this method is done, I wanted to preserve my choices.

I did download the Superuser and got the Superuser Elite. Now, in Voodoo, all 5 choices (Superuser app installed, Device Rooted, Root Permission Granted, /system supports root protection, and Protected su copy available) are checked. I pressed Protect Root, and now have 2 buttons, Delete su Backup and Temp unroot (keeps backup). I am assuming this has made the backup you were speaking of? Is there a backup file somewhere I need to make sure get's saved like to the external SD card or can upload to my Dropbox? Does this mean I am ready to accept the JB update? Also, some people are saying they have done an FDR after updating JB and root is protected. Is that an FDR using your HoB software or is it safe to use the phones FDR and root is still there?

Google now is way too much of a battery hog for me.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Let's check one more thing before you update to JB just to save yourself a headache later on. Open up Superuser Elite, go to the info tab, and do the check for updates. Make sure the su binary is up to date. If it is, no need to do anything further except to install the JB update. You are protected and good to go. Just want to make sure your su binary is fully updated just to save you some trouble later on. If the su binary is NOT up to date when you check, update it and then let me know so I can give you additional steps before you do the JB update. I hope this all makes sense. Short version, check su binary to make sure it's up to date, if it is, go ahead and JB update away. If it's not, update it and come back for further instructions. Good luck!!!

I haven't even set it up yet....

P.S. I didn't answer your FDR question. It can be done many different ways. The House of Bionic has an option to do it. There's an option in system settings to do it. There's an option in recovery to do it. All it does is delete your data partition so your apps and app data are wiped out...giving you a clean slate. Root is installed on the system partition which is not touched by an FDR. So you can safely FDR if you want a clean slate and still retain root.

I opened up SuperUser. It said Elite wasn't installed this time, rebooted my phone, now says elite is installed. Ran the "tap to check for updates" and it did apparently download a new update to the binary and now has 3.1.1 installed.

Oh, and thank you for the info on the FDR.

Ok, so, before you take the plunge to JB, do one more thing. Follow these directions exactly:

o) Open Voodoo
o) Delete su backup
o) Protect root

If all the checkboxes are checked, you're good to go to install JB.

I did that, all boxes are checked, and now running the OTA JB update. Thank you so much Samuri, feels pretty good to have rooted the first time :)

NP. We're not quite done yet but you're getting there. Once the JB update is done, when you want to restore root you just open up Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper again, and then there should be a restore root option. Do that, reboot, and hopefully you're good to go.

Having problems getting a screen shot but in TiBu the app info says Webtop 1.0 and Package Version 1.0(1)...

In Settings > About Phone, what is listed under Webtop version?

(it should be wt-3.0.0)

I'll keep that in mind. However, my download has stayed at 0% saying "download suspended. will resume shortly". Is it possible I messed something up or would that not affect the download and only the install if I did something wrong in the root process?

No, others have seen that, as well. My take is it means the server is overloaded. God forbid Google spring for more server capacity or anything...

Yeah, I rebooted my phone just to see if that would kickstart it, now it says will download on wifi or in off peak hours, so you are, as usual, right :)

Once again, thank you for all your help. I feel like I know my phone 10 times more than I have this past year and a half because of this process and your help made it go very smooth.

If u don't want to wait, u can download the 22 update file on Sam's house of bionic page, put it in the root of your external sd card then reboot into Android recovery and install it manually, u can still restore root with the backup.

I seem to be having the same issue with Google now. When i check my Battery usage it says that 70% of it is being driven by Android. I assume that includes Google now. Anybody know for sure?

So I'm still getting the weird gui wifi thing...

GUI somethingoeother blah blah abnormal situation code: wifi login screen required null.

As previously stated, I tried forgetting and readding my home wifi. And the wifi does work, btw.

Any ideas?

Well, I installed the JB update, I went to Voodoo, clicked Restore Root, rebooted, and still, Device Rooted and Root Permission Granted are unchecked. Is there a step I'm missing or have I just lost root?
