DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I figured while we're waiting for more news about JB we might as well talk about the future too...

Man, I can't wait for the future. But, I guess I'll just have to live it up in the present.

Thanks so much...looking forward to JB and keeping my Bionic .
"and" my unlimited data plan! ;-) And thanks Samurai for keeping us up to date on what's happenin'.

I take it testing is suspended over the weekends

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

So D4 soak emails went out. Theirs will be 98.72.18 as I mentioned before. We're getting closer. They're still testing 98.72.21 for us but I don't know if the build will pass or not.

You originally felt build 21 was going to fail, if it makes it through is that a bad thing?

I'm watching it closely. "If it makes it through" means it passes, so....there isn't a situation where it fails the tests and they simply ship it anyway. It doesn't work like that. Right now I'd say the odds are 50/50 on build 21.

Any speculation as to when?

I don't usually comment on things that are told to me, but, I'm going to pass this one along on the understanding that it shouldn't be reposted anywhere else. However, I'm told that 21 is going to be replaced (which I already knew but was reconfirmed today) with 22 sometime next week. The part that's got a lot of people upset that know about this is that if 22 fails, it's possible (cough likely) that Moto will pull the plug on Bionic JB. They will put in an earnest effort to get it working on build 22. So no need to panic yet. But prepare yourself for the possibility. Even in a best case scenario, if 22 is started later this week or next week, then basically we're looking at 4 weeks minimum. RAZR and D4 were closer to 5-6 weeks to cycle through. That's pushing us toward the end of April. A lot of people, myself included, can buy a new subsidized phone in May. Not that I'm going to, but, a lot of people who bought the Bionic on day 1 will be eligible for a new phone right around the time JB is potentially released. So you can see why 22 is the final push to get it done. Anything past that would be absurd for an EOL phone.

Is there a particular reason why the builds keep failing? I won't lie even though I know it's reached it's EOL and I'm due for an upgrade in May as well I love my Bionic some hiccups aside would love to Jelly Bean on it.

No matter how hard they try it would still have to be approved by Verizon. Do you really see them approving JB if they could get people to spend money on a new phone?

They have to have a REASON to not approve it other than "we want people to buy a new phone." Sadly, they've found what they consider a reason. It rhymes with crISIS.

Punit Soni staked his reputation on this.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

I don't know if I agree with that. He's worked VERY hard on our behalf. I really hate the attitude in the US that it's not ok to fail. We see failure as something to be avoided at all cost. However, a lot of times we learn most from failures. The fact that if Moto fails to push out a JB build for an EOL somehow means his reputation is completely ruined is ridiculous.

I don't understand what Verizon has against the bionic

It's not a RAZR. And I'm being serious. The RAZR gets half assed crappy builds pushed out at the drop of a hat. The Bionic could have an almost nearly flawless build and VZW finds SOME reason to reject it. It's total nonsense and makes me SERIOUSLY reconsider doing business with them going forward.
