DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I'm all about giving people second chances. I bought the hype and bought bionic day 1. I was promised ICS shortly after that. 1 year later they deliver it. This is dealing with constant data drops. It took 1 year before my phone was functioning properly. After ICS it was a great phone. Punit Soni came on and made that happen and props to him, but he also made a promise for JB. So if they can't get their act together and release jelly bean I will be offended. As Punit Soni said a million times don't make promises you can't deliver on.

I won't judge him until that comes to fruition. Until then he gets the benefit of the doubt by me.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

You might wanna re-read that one there bud, before you put words in my mouth

Here's what I don't understand and quite honestly never have. What exactly does Verizon gain by stuffing their phones full of bloatware? I've never used any of the services and don't know any one who has. I could be wrong but I don't hear about the other major carriers doing this at least to the degree VZW does.

VZW insisted on a new piece of crapware, and it appears to be failing the builds. Moto will give it one more try and then call it good. VZW won't accept the build without it.
And, of course, most of us will nuke whatever it is on arrival, which gets us more or less back to where we'd all be with the current build from Motorola. Well, except for the additional delay, which Verizon is glad to give us for free.

Fair enough. And as of now, they are still working on a JB build. But, I see you queuing up the pitchfork if they pull the plug (LMAO). That's what worries me. Punit has fought VERY hard for us...harder than most people will EVER know. I just feel holding him responsible for something that's outside of his control isn't right. But it's your right to have that opinion. I get it. And I get where the sentiment is coming from. He will, however, learn from this experience. He's going to learn that even Google's power is limited when it comes to VZW. They really are jerks. I can't think of a company that hates their customers more than VZW does. But if you do think the grass is greener on other MFG's phones, I beg you to go do the research. Here's a question to answer. The S3 was designed to not have a locked bootloader. What carrier's S3 has the only locked version of the S3.....in the world? What carrier's Nexus didn't get an official JB update for 3 months after all the other carriers? What carrier's Xoom tablet has had 4.1.x locked and loaded ready to go with the update since September and is still awaiting carrier approval? What S3 variant was the last to get JB? What carrier's iPhone had an update rejected when they first got the iPhone and pissed off Apple so badly that they threatened to pull the iPhone from their network if they weren't given direct control over ALL future iPhone updates? These are the things people don't hear about.

Total nonsense isn't it? I mean, it's not like the Bionic shipped with the hardware necessary to use it natively (meaning you gotta go get a new SIM), it only works in 2 cities. What kind of a joke is that? Clearly it's a tactic designed to kill the Bionic JB release....and sadly, it's not only working, Moto is about to get the ire of the customers for "broken promises". VZW can suck it.

Gotta get a new SIM? If I'm not wrong you gotta get a whole new phone? This is total BS. I just found your hint and am not happy.

They're delusional. They think by forcing this crap on people's phones they'll get more customers for it. It must work cause they keep doing it. On phones that it doesn't matter. Their precious "best selling" phones they don't do this to. Only the phones they hate.

Don't need a new phone. You need a SIM with NFC in order to use that STUPID thing....in one of the few cities that support it.....at places that have it active. Yup, I can totally see that being worth holding up an EOL phone's update for. Idjits. I'm starting to really dislike locked phones more and more.

Apple really threatened that?

I thought NFC was in the battery? Shows what I know.

That they did. But it wasn't highly publicized for obvious reason. I was pretty surprised to learn that, though. They are the only ones I know of that have successfully stood up to VZW.

Oh there's all kinds of ways to do NFC. VZW seems to think SIM card is a good way. Moto clearly disagrees. LOL

They can't leak the build. If they did they'd be responsible for supporting it. They'd be better off giving you all the 100 bucks and sending the Bionics to a Chinese landfill. I'm not kidding.

If T-Mobile could get LTE on the tower near me, I'd go with them. Otherwise I may have to consider AT&T which blows, but, at least they allow unlocked phones. Once your phone is unlocked, official updates don't mean a damn thing anymore. And people should, over the next 5 years, watch Google closely.

Is Google considering starting their own network? Swore I've heard rumors to that effect before.

I wonder if they could have post Steve Jobs? His fire seemed to have been convincing.

NFC in the SIM seems kind of stupid. Is it that way in the RAZR HD? And I wonder if VZW is going to try and force manufacturers to do it their way too, like Samsung with the SG4, etc.

I don't know. They call google wallet insecure but yet their POS tech is using the same security and somehow it's ok? What a joke.

Look, we'll see what happens. This is far from over. They're still working on the build and we've got several weeks before it's a make or break situation. So don't worry yet.

I'm really not worried about Bionic and JB. I'm more worried about the friction between these two companies. I want a Moto phone, because I've always liked their devices, and they are now owned by Google making them better in my eyes. I also want the awesome Verizon network. I just don't understand why I can't have my cake and eat it too... :)

If it makes you feel any better (and this goes back to my comment earlier about the special relationship Moto has with VZW) VZW just had a RAZR MAXX HD commercial on TV.

It would make me feel better if I was also watching TV, and not sitting in my Finance class...

You keep talking about buying unsubsidized phones. And I'm assuming there is going to be an unlocked xphone. Will having an unlocked xphone on verizon's network fix this problem of crapware and updates?
