DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I'd just like to say this thread is getting way off topic. :D

I'm avoiding sports broadcasts. Been listening to the Ultra Music Fest in Miami simulcast on SiriusXM instead. ;)

Lol, glad to know we're all board.

I like all the Hendrik drivers. I've always disliked Kyle Busch, but it was a great way to end a race.

Quiet few days on the Motorola front; no xphone or bionic update rumors.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Not true. Someone finally released an article stating that the so called "X phone" won't be out til November. That's what I've been saying is the earliest I'd predict seeing one. As yet, Moto hasn't announced any new phones at all in the pipeline. People are getting all bent out of shape based on nothing but rumors and speculation. I'm sure the November rumor isn't going to make people happy, but, it is more realistic if it's going to ship with KLP. Of course, they give rumored specs, too, but,I'm not sure I trust any of that. They claim 2 gigs of ram, snapdragon 800 quad core proc, 4.8" screen, sapphire glass instead of gorilla glass, water resistant coating, and rubber corners. Some of it could be true, but, I could throw a dart at the specs of all the new procs and screens and come up with that just as easily. I don't buy the sapphire glass rumor at all. It's rumored that Moogle wants to keep the price down so that they can sell it unsubsidized outside of carriers (we'll see) and sapphire glass ain't cheap.

I was not aware of that.

I only saw it this morning. But X phone rumors aren't hard to come by these days. LOL :) As for the Bionic build, I'm told it's testing well and is on track so far. We'll see how that goes.

Well seeing that, I hope JB gives me good reason to keep my Bionic longer. I really want to know what the "X-Phone" will provide, before I make my next phone purchase. It could be the S4 too. Since I had AT&T before Verizon, I don't have the benefit of their Unlimited Data plan. But really, Verizon is the best network around here, and pretty much everywhere else I've been. If only they weren't so draconian with the OTA updates!

To be fair, and I hate giving VZW credit at ALL, but, it should be pointed out that in the first 3 months of this year VZW is pushing out updates like there's no tomorrow. I'm not saying they rock at it, but, updates are coming out left and right. So I'll give them that one.

As for the X phone, all we have are rumors and speculation. Moogle has kept quiet about it. What will be really telling for me as to whether or not to wait for it is what they say at Google I/O in May. I worry...no, GREATLY worry, that they don't "get it" still and that what we'll see is a list of specs, a nod to KLP, and "shipping sometime in Q4". If that's all they give us, and I suspect greatly that it will be, then I'm going to be very concerned about the success of that phone. No matter what the tech specs are, they need a more exciting marketing brand around it. Droid Does (tm) markets to techies. There's no emotion there whatsoever. "One phone to rule them all"...remember that nonsense? Then a month later they release the skinny sexy version? LMAO. So if all we see is at Google I/O is some specs, a general idea of what the phone looks like, confirmation that it'll be a KLP phone, and a general "sometime this year" timeframe....they will very likely lose me as a customer this round. And they won't gain any new ones.

Based on that assumption and if that happens it would be Bionic all over again.

Complete agreement with you there though, I would most likely be passing on Motorola at that point.

I'm hoping against hope that they prove me wrong. I don't need to see something as elaborate and cheesy as the S4 launch. I think we all agree it was laced with cheese...BUT, it was effective. It showed how people could benefit from that phone. If Moogle comes out and gives us a list of tech specs and not much more, they will have a HUGE disconnect. "Ok, great, those SOUND awesome....now, what does that enable me to do that my existing phone can't?" That's a problem that can only be solved with clever marketing. And it's what keeps the superior Moto phones from hitting 10 million in sales in one month. You can have all the superior tech in the world, but, if you can't market it to average Joe and Jane, then it's worthless. And I also worry that Moogle has no wiggle room for a failed launch at this point. As I said on another forum a little while ago, Moogle gets ONE chance at redemption. Fair or not, if they blow the next phone launch it will hurt Moto AND Google for a LONG time to come. People will think "Geeze, if Moto can't successfully launch a phone with Google in their back pocket, then, um, no thanks."

Agree, and sad to say they may lose me. I so wanted an awesome moto phone this summer.

We'll see. I just got some new information on potential ACTUAL specs for the thing (no, I can't post them, sorry) and if they're accurate, it could be a nice little (cough cough) phone. However, I still maintain that marketing is going to play a big role in how successful it is. May can't get here fast enough...

Sam: Hoping you may have gotten some updated Build 23 info at the same time you got the info above?

Nope. Last I heard it was still kicking butt in testing and was looking good.

Can you clarify something. At this point in the game, Motorola would know exactly what VZ was looking for. How could they send something for testing that was doomed to fail.

Note: not talking about this build, but the process in general

Horribly bad assumption you're making there. And not necessarily true at all. You need to understand the BS process. Moto creates a build, completes about 2 weeks of in house testing. They ship it off to VZW. They do whatever joke of a test they do. On the FIRST failure, they fail the build. The do NOT continue testing it. Hence why it takes SO ridiculously long and why Moto bashes their head against a wall. It took 11 builds for VZW to accept ICS....and they didn't do so willingly.
