DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

If you were him, would you post before you knew it was going to be a nearly flawless launch?

Yes.

Granted its a much different political environment then when we were waiting on ICS. But, yes if I were him any time bionic news became available I would announce it. Since Bionic was a microcosm of their update issues

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Wow, don't look at this thread for 2 hours and it blows up. So Sam, I tried to skim through all the posts, but didn't get quite a solid answer. I'm signed up for the soak, so I probably will get it soon. If you were in my shoes what would you suggest? Thanks.

This is going to be an interesting next few days.

Hmm, should I just decline the update, quickly change my phone to not accept the update, or just take it? If I do take it and it sucks, any way to fix it later down the road?

If you decide to take the update, you are stuck with it. No downgrade possible. Best you could hope for is a rom or something. Whether to take it or not is a decision only you can make.

Tell me about it. Once the update is leaked I'm going to have a whole BUNCH of people trying to use the HoB to install it. And it will go badly for those that want to keep root.

You think it's interesting now? Wait til Sam posts instructions on updating and a couple guys try to do it without reading the directions!

I just updated the instructions. Basically if you use the HoB to install the JB update, you'll permanently lose root. I've added this to my directions:

WARNING to those looking to use this to install 98.72.22 JB:

If you use the HoB to install the JB update or FXZ (when available), you *WILL* lose root. The ONLY way to keep root is to root in ICS and use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to protect root before you take the OTA. If you flash the system image, which the House of Bionic WILL do if you use it, you *WILL* lose root. There is no known working root exploit for the Bionic JB release. You have been warned!

I'm SURE people will read that warning and heed it. :-X

Yes. I talk to Matt every few days. What do you want to know? It requires root and when it finds an update zip in /cache/ it copies it for you.

Just thinking of using another family members bionic to get a copy of the update since they aren't in a position to 'fear' what may happen :screwy: then cloud it somewhere for others?

I think you maybe misunderstand what it does. It doesn't go GET an update for you. It's not cheesecake which has been dead since October. It's a program that automates copying the update zip from /cache on a rooted bionic when it finds an update through the OTA mechanism.

Yes, understand.

Were we able to get any clarification on the small file size and possibly incorrect build number?
