DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

LOL, yea, it is pretty comical at this point. I just have to wonder how long they're going to drag this out. I mean, the D4 pushed already, so, the only OMAP4 device they have left is ours. Then they can die. Think about it...we're getting an old version of JB a few weeks before they're going to announce a major new version of Android. I'm told that'll be 5.0 (Key Lime Pie, as we know). As I've said before, the time to buy a new phone is when it comes with a major version of an OS. Not "will be upgraded to it" like the S IV...but actually ships with it like the Nexus 5 and perhaps Ghost. Ghost, btw, is *NOT* the XT912A. It's XT1058. Whether or not it's the infamous "X phone" is debatable. But it's a multi-carrier AND international phone that's being worked on.

So, it's possible that Ghost and Xphone might not be same project, and that the rumors on the xphone might be still possible, just at a later date. My thought originally on the XT912A is that it may be a lower end device that launches in conjunction with their high end device, giving two different price points.

Also, I agree that if you want the newest form of Android, you need to buy it then, not wait for an upgrade. I've always been of the opinion that you shouldn't buy a phone expecting an update, and buy it for what it has on it.

Lastly, if Motorola is launching with 5.0, that means they were given early access to the code. This could mean two things. First, I've heard the company that makes the Nexus phones always gets early access to the next version of Android, since they are making the phone. So, maybe the next Nexus is Motorola. Second, if they received early access, and no one else has, then there are going to be a lot of pissed off OEMs out there (Samsung...).

yeah, you are right again, also ICS was more critical to the phone functioning correctly.

Well, Moto is Google. I don't think Google bought them just to spend money...

No, they are most definitely not. Google has put up a firewall between them and Moto. Moto gets NO special treatment. Is this not obvious to you guys? Hello....build 23 ring a bell? Horribly bad Ghost test results? Do not believe the hype that Moto is somehow special. It's not.

But... but... I WANT to believe!

Let's assume for arguments sake that this Dell style business model is the new standard for Motorola; imagine what updating 600 different variations will be like? ;)

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

There is *NO* way that's going to happen. That's someone's raving lunatic fantasy BS. They've stopped releasing the "phone of the month" only to go to a model where they have 500 variations? Um, NO.

That makes sense, and would definitely not help the problem... What about the button on the back?

The rumors are bs. And if people are going to get their panties in a knot because we discuss what we're planning on getting after the bionic, then what's the point of posting anything at all since jb on the bionic is weeks away if we're lucky...

You are right. In this thread there is no point in discussing anything else but the JB update for the Bionic. By all means start a different thread and go to town, but this thread is CLEARLY labeled "DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update".

Well, looks more waiting oh well...

Anyways, I thought JB would rid phones of the old stock browser, but my brother still has his on his Maxx after the OTA last week. Though Chrome is featured prominently on it now.

Sushi, if you have a problem with the contents of this thread, please make another thread that outlines your complaints. We will all gladly discuss, at length, the legitimacy of your issues in your complaint specific thread.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

As I said before, I'll listen to Ry, the thread starter, and the mods. All others who have issues I'll ignore. Not worth arguing with people.

Was the default browser changed the Chrome?

Indeed. All new Moto phones ONLY ship with Chrome. I nuked the standard browser and switched to Chrome when we got ICS.

About a year ago I started a thread asking what people prefer, and most people said stock worked best. Since we are now a year later, would you recommend going to Chrome? I've still been using stock because of what was recommended to me a year ago. Is there really a difference?

As I said, I got rid of stock browser completely. It's in my disabled list. I ONLY use Chrome. It syncs with all my other devices and works quite well.

I tried chrome a few months ago and thought it was laggy so I went back to Dolphin. Maybe I'll try it out again. I did love how it syncs though, I found that very useful.

I'm still using stock. Never tried Chrome, but I've used Dolphin and another I think, but just loved the simplicity and layout of stock. Since I don't use Chrome on other devices or computers, not even the sync option interests me. I may give it a try, but... *Crosses fingers for stock option in JB*

Actually, no, it was not obvious to me, as I am not an industry insider and really get most of my information about this here (and, please, don't take that sentence as sarcasm; its not). I would have attributed the issues with the builds more to the carrier than to the OS sponsor. Plus, I would have attributed some of the issues to products in the pipeline pre-dating the Google acquisition. Now, I have to ask (again, in all seriousness), what did Google acquire Moto for, if not to have its own in-house hardware manufacturer? If its an absolute firewall, what's the benefit to either organization?
