DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Sam...do I need to be rooted on ICS first in order to take advantage of whatever exploit may be available, if the JB OTA isn't good? Sorry, even though I'm an IT person, my knowledge is more limited with the new phone technology. Anyway, my Bionic is currently stock ICS...never rooted. If JB busts, it would be great to have a "rollback" plan to (what I'm quite satisfied with) a working ICS.

No rollback. Once you go JB you're stuck there. Period.

Ok..got it...thought the "exploit" might have been some way to refresh/reload image of ICS like we can in the Pc world...obviously I'm way off there. Guess, I'll just sit and watch these forums for feedback on JB before I load it. As always, thanks for your insight.

I want to stress...no, STRESS....that what I'm about to tell you does not, NOR WILL IT EVER, apply to OMAP4 phones. Those are physically incapable of what I'm about to say.

DJRBliss, i.e. the master that finds our Moto root exploits, just released one MOTHER of an exploit....he unlocked the bootloader on the RAZR HD. Let me repeat that....he unlocked the freaking bootloader on retail RAZR HD phones!! How insane is that?! Now see above and don't bother asking.

Pandora only pulls between 30-40MB per hour using the mobile app. Heck, even at 1MB/minute, that's:

1MB/minute * 60 minutes in an hour * 8 hours per day * 5 work days per week * 4 weeks in a month = 9600MB or 9.6GB

Even if you stream 8 hours per day for 31 days, that's still less than 15GB. And that's really just using unrealistic numbers. In reality, at 8 hours of play every day of the workweek, you're likely using much closer to 6.4GB. In short, you're doing a lot more than streaming Pandora.
This is what I thought to. I did a little research and it appears I have an app that pulls a boatload of bandwidth - tinycam monitor pro. So far this month I've used 5.97GB March 23 - April 7 and Tiny Cam has used 3.11GB of that. We have security cams in the house that we monitor while away sometimes, I am wondering if this app (if not closed) continues to draw tons of bandwidth. It makes sense that it may be our culprit, because we really don't do anything on our phones otherwise besides check emails and occasionally look something up on the web away from home. I also found in my history something called "uninstalled apps," and it used a ton. No idea wtf that is though, I have not uninstalled anything of note.

The point of all this is still that I am currently on an Unlimited Data plan so it doesn't really matter. Someone else who had my apps on a capped plan would be paying through the nose, and this for barely even using the damn phone. I looked up Netflix and it can use up to 2.5GB for an HD movie, so basically on a capped plan you are being sold a super fast 4G LTE phone that you can do basically nothing with.

Can you explain to me the theory behind locking the bootloader. What do they have to lose by it becoming unlocked. Perhaps I'm ignorant but I do not see a reason for the mfg to care. I see Verizon's reasoning behind sim locking, but not the mfg.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

NONE of the mfg's want to lock the bootloader. They're forced to by VZW. And yes, even Samsung has to lock their phones.

So in regards to your comment about the RAZR HD why not just make them super easy to exploit? Or is this pretty much the essence of the ridiculous vzw update standards?

I suspect there's contractual crap that's involved.

THEN, as I said, you will continue to get fleeced by VZW which they know most customers will put up with. It's as simple as that. If you're not willing to switch, you can't really get mad about losing unlimited and having to pay more for less data.

Well, that's ok, because I'm not mad. :)

Sweet! So tell me how I do it on my Bionic. ;)

So when will we be getting unlocks?
