DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

They may be working hard on the "outskirts", but existing suburban areas still have pockets of no4G. I'm in the L.A. area, and the town I work in (Alhambra), only a few miles east of downtown, gets 3G only, yet the next town over is excellent 4G.

VZW suggested we (my company) pay "them" to upgrade their local tower. Our executive director told them to "pound sand" and that we'd go to a different provider on our next company-wide refresh of devices.

Oh good. Once again VZW shows how they care greatly about their customers and works tirelessly to meet the needs....BAHAHAHAHA. Sorry, I couldn't keep a straight face. They just don't care. They're raking in money hand over fist and until the money train stops, they honestly couldn't care less if you abandon them for another network. When you consistently have the worst customer service and are rated the number 1 cell phone company, well, um, the only change you're going to see is them finding out just how far they can push their customers until they break.

Didn't mean to suggest it wasn't going on, we all know that you are right that unlimited plans are going the way of the dinosaur.:D

Well, I don't KNOW anything. I don't work for VZW. I can simple share a little of what I've been told. Remember, take ALL of this as rumor until VZW confirms it. I'm honestly as skeptical as Ry when it comes to VZW shutting down the CDMA network, but, that's what I've been told. As in, by the end of 2015. The reason for it happening is very plausible, unfortunately, and isn't something VZW has full control over. And that's really about all I can say on that one. The unlimited plan going away should have been seen as coming by anyone who pays VZW. :) They have been EXTREMELY vocal about the fact that they are going to make you pay a lot more and get a lot less for your dollars. The re-verification of corporate discounts is another way to wring as much money out of your pockets as they can. They know getting rid of the discounts will force a lot of us to other companies, so, they do the next best thing which is to get those who no longer work for a company that has a valid discount off the discount program. All these little decisions they make are not "for the benefit of the consumer"....it's for the benefit of their bottom line. They are a business, but, at some point customers have to decide how much crap they're willing to take from them.

At the end of the day no one is complaining about their service, though. Imagine if on top of that we talked about spotty reception and call drops.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Their spectrum getting bought or blocked out?

Looks like it will be the last though.

That's not a surprise for me. Anyone who follows Dan should know his stance on this subject. You want root? Get an unlockable phone. Otherwise you have to wait until "someone" finds you a new exploit. And as he said, they're becoming harder and harder to find. That means very few people have the skillset required to find them, and he has no more patience for it. But we'll see what the future brings. The reason he wanted this one out is because those on RAZR HD that took the 4.1.2 update couldn't root and therefore weren't able to unlock the bootloader. Now they can. As far as he's concerned, they're good to go now. :) Since they can unlock they can maintain root.

Blah blah blah. The entitlement hack still works. :)

I thought the "entitlement" hack only works on rooted phones? That being said, if we take the upgrade to JB and we can't unlock it, we lose the PDANET+ and the WiFi tether for free.... Or am I missing something?

Yes, it only works on root, which given the news today shouldn't be an issue hopefully. Beyond that, FOXFI was updated with JB support so people can relax now. :)

Per droidlife- foxfi to work on jb including our phone

Maybe a silly question, but is it possible that a future update for the RAZR HD/HD MAXX could relock the bootloader and shut the door on the exploit? Just wondering how safe the exploit is for the future.

Thank you.

Unlikely. I say impossible but people have argued with me so we'll see. Once the QFuse is blown, there's no "unblowing it"...it essentially becomes a dev device.

Also, that root exploit I posted will NOT work for Bionic. I can say this for sure. :(

Okay. Thank you. :)

Considering a new phone and thought about a RAZR HD.

Well, if you want to unlock one, you better make that decision "soon" as I know they're working on a patch that will close off the unlock exploit.

Which leaves the 'legacy' router issues.

Thanks for that link! I'll be studying up and learning how to do this to save my PDANET. Much appreciation.

That might not be necessary. As of earlier today PDANET is working with JB versions of many phones related to ours. It may just work, or might not be long once our JB update is out.

I actually just checked the PDANET website and they show the Verizon Bionic now supporting JB... How did they test it? From a rooted phone maybe?
