DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Ditching tegra? Wonder why?

Power consumption. Sucker is not nearly as power efficient as the snapdragon procs. And it's rumored that they might throw an LTE version out there which the snapdragon lends itself to quite well.

Interesting, think it'll be on Verizon? Is Asus building this one?

Don't know about VZW. I have no info other than it's rumored and possible. Yes, ASUS is building this one.

Hopefully the build quality will be really good. I don't care if it's on VZW, i was just curious.

Yea, being on a snapdragon platform gives them lots of options for LTE, so, we'll have to wait and see. The build quality of the current NX7 has suffered a bit, for sure. Maybe this new one will be better. But remember, to compete at this price range, something has to give...quality, in the case of the first NX7.

Agreed. I assumed the n7 was to attract new customers where the n10 was to attract more power users, or established customers. I was shocked when I saw how much more the n10 was, I figured it was also going to be competitively priced too, but I bet it's build quality was better.

What cause me to hold off on the NX10 is the fact that it's dual core. I need a tablet that's going to hang in there for the long haul, not be outdated in less than a year. My Xoom, for example, is rocking 4.2.2, overclocked, and still going strong. See what an unlocked bootloader can do for ya? ;)

I really dislike the pathetic show of corporate circle jerking to push the resolution of these devices ever higher as if they have any actual benefit. Yeah great, you need a microscope to see the pixels, meanwhile performance and battery life suffers.

I'm fine with 250-350 PPI.

Nice.

Anyone using the new play store on the bionic yet?

I am, though it wouldn't install over the first Play Store. In /system/app/ I backed up the old Vending.apk, copied the new one in and renamed, then changed the permissions to "rw r r". After a reboot, everything was good.

The icons in app lists are larger, so you can't see as much on a screen (which is annoying to me), and it looks like they removed the checkbox in the settings that referenced AdMob ads (I don't remember exactly what that was). It feels faster, though.

I just used the link to download on DL. It installed right over without issue. Did the same on my Xoom LTE, also without issue.

That's where I got it from, too. But I also got the "Application not installed: an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed." error. No idea why...I've had it happen before, also when trying to sideload a system app. Whatever, it works now :)

I just got the new play store last night, love the new look, and it runs smoother, my nexus 7 still has the old version though.
