DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

If you don't care about root, can you just put the zip file provided on you sd card, restart into recovery and install from zip for this update? Semi-newbie, please be gentle.

Did you have safe strap installed? XDA says it must be uninstalled but some users here say it installed fine with SS.

No, I have not had it installed in quite some time.

Yes sir, from the stock recovery.

Anyone verification yet that if you used Voodoo to unroot and took the OTA that Voodoo let's you re-root?

Saw where someone on another board suggested a different method using the FXZ and people are now complaining they lost root. Obviously didn't listen to or know about Sam's warning and also didn't do any research.

Thanks Sam for the advice /warning.

Yes, Voodoo OTA Rootcondom (private joke) is working fine for people restoring root. FXZ...bad. :)

Isn't that the.246 build?

If you don't know the naming conventions by now you might wanna wait for the OTA...

Here's what may be a stupid question but seems like the appropriate time to ask. Why do certain things "typically" only come via OTA or push vioupdates? Doesn't necessarily need to be full OS updates but say the recent Play Store update. Now if I didn't download it manually I may still be waiting for it to push. Now obviously you still the OTA updates by why not have both?

Safe strap definitely must be uninstalled prior. Looks like update is going through fine now. Thanks Chris!

Moto always includes the number of the version the update is designed to work with in the file name, so no. That just means that is it designed to flash over .246.

And if you look at my files, I ALWAYS add the version number that you're upgrading to at the end in ()...so in this case 987222...

Oh, I see the 9872222 at the end.

There you go. :)

Do I install that link to the JB update in stock recovery? I tried but got a status 7 error. I am using safe strap and am on the stock slot where I am completely..stock.

You are not completely stock. You have SS installed. ;)

Ok question. I have the superSU app and voodoo says that it is not supported because superSU already has a root keeper ability built in. Does anyone know if the superSU root protection is as reliable? Or should I try to download another superuser app and use voodoo.

First off, voodoo lies. It'll work. Second, supersu pro has the same kind of mechanism that voodoo has so either will work. I use supersu pro and plan on using it and voodoo to protect root if and when I decide to do the update.

Sam, quick question. I boot into boot modes, select Rocovery. It shows an Android with an red triangle like it is going into Recovery mode. After a few minutes it shows the Motorola sign and boots normal. What am i doing wrong. The history of the phone is I have used House of Bionic to get to 247, then fxz back to 246 a long time ago and have not messed with it since. thanks for the help in advance.

Press vol up+ vol down.

Yea press Vol Up and Down when you get to the Droid icon. Trying to remember if the new one has the red triangle or if that means recovery is hosed. If so, you may have to take a trip through the HoB again. Keep Data option.

Sam, where can I learn more about the security level increase you mentioned? How do you know that FXZing back to ICS won't work? Just trying to think of options.

Thanks guys, been so long since I messed with my phone, I forgot about that step. Installing now, will report back with any issues. Thanks again.

Trust me on that one. The cdt.bin is a partition that contains the security level of all the other partitions. When they up the security version of the cdt.bin and the other partitions (which they have in a big way for JB) the phone disallows you to flash a lower security version. So, if you tried to flash a lower cdt.bin than what's on your phone it'll fail. If you try the backdoor method of flashing you'll brick your phone. I include a CDTParser written by the amazing Skrillax_CZ (who leaks our FXZ's) within the House of Bionic utils directory. That's what I use to check the security of the cdt.bin partition. It's why I'm absolutely positive if you try to flash a previous version it'll fail and/or brick your phone.
