DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

You won't brick. You can open a command prompt to the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic\utils directory. It has ADB that you can use. You may want to copy that special su into the same directory so you can run the commands as is.

Only a theory, but, yea.

Ok, for my peace of mind so I know best what to do since I've never done anything like this before, I drop the su file in the HoB Utility subfolder, then open up a Command Window and go to C:\xxxxxx\desktop\House of Bionic\utilities (or whatever the Directories are named) and type "ADB shell" (without quotes), hit enter, and then type su - and hit enter? Also, is there a space between the u and the -? Then I type id and hit Enter? If so, will that "uid=0(root) gid=0(root)" display after doing the id command to show I have root, or is that something I have to type?

Well you have to follow the guide. But yes, that's how you start out. Your su-backup is likely going to be in /system/usr/we-need-root/ and that's what you'll want to try running instead of su.

Open the cmd prompt
adb shell
/system/usr/we-need-root/su-backup

That should give you the # prompt. If it does, follow the guide.

Ok, I opened the ADB Shell and I have showing "1:shell@cdma_targa:/ $" (no quotes). I typed /system/usr/we-need-root/su-backup because I checked the phone and it is there, but it says "Can't execute: Permission denied".

My experience has been quite the opposite so far. My GPS is working better than it ever has!

However, I'm still experiencing heavy battery drain...even after turning off Now. I lost roughly 5% within an hour of the phone simply sitting idle in my pocket. Again, MEDIA was off the charts in percentages, and I wasn't even using any media!!

Really hoping this settles down because I don't enjoy spending three hours putting everything back together again after an FDR.

yeah, mine is showing media as the bat hog - i thought three days would be long enough to index my 3000+ songs and 1000+ pics

That's a new one. I honestly don't know. Something is seriously wrong there.

My bat draining fast too, albeit only 2 days in. But my media is only 3%. Big hog for me seems to be com.Motorola.blur.home @ 15%. What is that?

Ok, so I was going to go ahead and wipe the cache. I powered on while holding both volume up and down. I scrolled down to recovery and pressed up to select. I then get to the droid laying down but it has a red triangle. When I hit up and down together, I get no response. I let the phone sit and it eventually boots as normal. Any idea what is going on and why I can't get to the recovery menu?

I am totally stock and had an uneventful update to JB. I am doing the cache wipe to hopefully end some lag.

Yea, I genuinely don't know how to fix it.
Oh well, I wish I had root to get rid of the bloat when this stops being my primary phone, but I will just have to live with not having it. Who knows, maybe we will get lucky and a root exploit will be found. Think I will just FDR and who knows, maybe a miracle will happen. But thank you for all your help Samuri.

A lot of bloat can be disabled without root. Just go to the app settings. Uninstall any updates, and then disable.

HoB 9.9 does seem to install and protect root correctly. One user has reported that it works so far. Hurray.

LOL Sounds like I should have waited one more day.

Does anybody know how to get a clean ICS copy of logwrapper? I think i screwed up and the bionic bootstrap removed the backup copy when i tried to remove it.

The only reason i even had it was to nandroid backup and restore my broken phone to this one. Now i suspect it's preventing me from taking the upgrade.

well, voodoo didn't keep or resttore my root. dang it.

but at least my tether app still works. but the reboot would really be nice.

If you know adb at all try this:

Adb shell
/system/usr/we-need-root/su-backup

If you get a # prompt it can be fixed.
