Well, DJRBliss himself announced it so I'll repeat it here. He has indeed been working on a Bionic exploit and will release it in a few days. I was not joking about the linux skill situation, though. This exploit is a repurposed version of the samba exploit that came out for the RAZR. It requires a linux install, setting up a samba share, and using adb to push the exploit and run it. It will NOT be some "run.bat", sit back and have a beer, and it's done. But, it will give us root again.
Wow, I hope its not hard to do. I already have root but in case I F my phone up, at least I can fxz without a worry plus my wife would like her root back that she lost for being stupid. Time will tell but this is definately great news!!!!
I think I lost root. What's the easiest way to be sure?
Before I upgraded, I THINK that I properly used Voodoo to save root--all checkboxes were checked, and Root Checker Basic showed that I did have root.
After the upgrade, Root Checker Basic showed that I do not have root.
When I now go into Voodoo, all checkboxes are checked except the middle checkbox "Root permission granted". I'm not sure if or how to get root back (or if it is even possible.)
Suggestions?
All that said, I do really like the update--things definitely are peppier. And in the end, if I don't get root back, it's not going to be a huge issue, but it would be nice...
I do believe Sam's House of Bionic script can help you with just that.
The instructions will be identical to the atrix hd root exploit on xda. If it mentions Ubuntu and samba you found the right one.

Nope. I have a method in the HoB that protects root during the ICS root exploit...so if you FXZ Keep Data, reapply root, it'll create a su-backup special to the HoB. But he's on the update and Voodoo is giving him problems. So yea, the link I pasted from XDA a couple pages back should help. A new root exploit is coming in the next few days, as well.
I lost root and voodoo didn't restore it. I said screw it and bought a galaxy nexus. I gotta say that the network connectivity on the bionic is just so much better than the nexus. But I really do enjoy doing whatever i want to my phone, and when its on a strong lte are its great. (still slower speeds than the bionic)
That's why I'm getting the RAZR HD tomorrow.
Sad day for us Bionic owners. Sam, you've been dayyymmmm awesome to us, far more then anyone could have asked for.
Don't cry. I just spent an hour with DJRBliss. What's this I see? Is that supersu granting root permissions to apps on my phone? I think it might be!![]()
BTW, I mentioned this in the HoB thread and I'll mention it here, as well. ChainDD's Superuser is the most widely used super user app. However, ALL of the people that I'm aware of that had problems restoring root after the JB update were using it. Those who used SuperSU or Koush's Superuser apps did not run into restore problems. I'm hereby recommending that everyone switch to either SuperSU or Koush's Superuser so that you don't have problems going forward. Koush's is open source which is a VERY good thing. CM has recently switched to it. I may switch from SuperSU to Koush's Superuser myself. I very well may update the HoB one last time and switch is so any stragglers who were waiting to upgrade to JB can switch. Just my opinion. Take it as you will.
