Doing a google search tells me that I'm not connected to my samba share. I'm stuck again. :(

Well... Did you connect your bionic to the samba share?

I looked at the S4 before I was given the RAZR HD. It's an impressive machine to be sure. But I would caution you....make SURE whatever you buy is unlockable if you care about root. Root exploits are becoming tougher and tougher to find and create. Even if you don't care about roms, if you EVER decide you want root, the only secure way to make that happen is with an unlockable bootloader. Just something to consider when you're looking for reasons to hold off buying a new phone.

P.S. Those looking to I/O next month for major announcements from Moogle are going to be HIGHLY disappointed. No KLP. No high end phones. You'll see the Ghost mid-range phone with 4.2.2 announced for a summer release. That's about it. I had low expectations for the past few months anyway about I/O....I've lowered them even further now.

So, I'm a huge noob/***** - I used Bionic Bootstrap, not realizing it wasn't compatible with JB, and obviously got the Encryption Unsuccessful mess. I followed the instructions earlier in this thread for using HoB and Fastboot to recover without root. Everything went well until the step where HoB directs you to boot into Recovery and apply the update - At this point, I get the result:

qe 1/1

-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/webtop/app/Kindle.apk", "[long string of numbers/letters]", "[different string of numbers/letters]")
Installation aborted.

I had already rooted and removed some of the bloatware, including Amazon Kindle - am I just completely screwed now, or is there a way to recover this?

Thanks to everyone for all the hard work that's already gone into this phone, you guys are awesome!

The rumors I've heard suggest those announcements will come sometime in Q3. Right now, I'm content with my Bionic on JB. Even got a new extended battery. But I will most likely buy an unlocked S4, if I decide to go that route. The HTC One looks nice, but I like the Moto and Samsung brands more. Plus, the One isn't offered by VzW (though there are rumors it will be soon).

Wait wait wait. You were on JB when you messed up? Hold everything. You need to stop and do this else you are going to make it worse....

o) Update to HoB 10.1
o) REMOVE the 246_FXZ from the HoB
o) Create a 98.72.22_FXZ directory and put the 98.72.22 FXZ zip file into it
o) Run the HoB
o) Use the FXZ Keep Data option

You WILL need to re-root with the Linux root exploit.

I also must say, the excellent performance of JB on my Bionic has also made me more inclined to stick with Moto. But this next phone we think we'll see from them soon, really needs to knock it out of the park. But, those Galaxy S4s do look fricking amazing...

If my information and gut instinct is correct, KLP in late October/November. X phone to follow at some point after that. Maybe. I do know that the high end Moogle phones will all ship with KLP and will be in the 2nd half of the year. I'm guessing more toward the end, personally. Nothing Moto ever does goes according to schedule. This is a very bleak year for Moto IMO. The unlocked RAZR HD gives me MUCH longer to debate what phone to get next. Those on Bionic, I beg you to hold off as long as you can. Use safestrap and play with some roms. 4.2.2 is kicking and someone is working on an overclockable kexec kernel with new governors. Now is not the right time to buy a new phone.

No doubt. It does look pretty amazing. But you can't deny the Moto build quality. And which would you rather have...a phone that's "upgradeable" to KLP....or one that ships with it out of the box? Which do you think will have it first? :)

Yeah, I really want to know what Moto will have to offer with their next top-of-the-line phone. I'm not opposed to holding on to a phone for ~2-years. My Bionic still does everything it needs to do (though the first few OTAs were vexing), and JB makes it better than ever. May 15th is my upgrade date, and anything can happen after that. I just know I'm not going back to the iPhone!

My upgrade date is May 8 but honestly I couldn't care less. I have no intention of ever buying a subsidized phone again. I'm keeping my unlimited. If VZW decides to alter our arrangement, I then have the option of telling VZW what they can go do with themselves without having to pay for the privilege.

Unfortunately, my experience with Hyperion went from great battery life (26-hours heavy-to-moderate use!) to disappointing. After giving the replacement battery they sent me a try, same thing happened. Now they're refunding my purchase. I decided to get another new OEM BW8X (for $8.99 through Amazon). Oh well, the phone is svelte once again!

Where did you find the OEM BW8X on Amazon for $8.99? The cheapest I see it for is $15.78.

And I'm confused by your "svelte" statement - isn't the BW8X still the extended (thicker) battery?

My born again, rooted, JB Bionic, combined with being grandfathered on unlimited data with VZW puts me in the exact same mindset. We now have a phone that can stay on the bleeding edge with a custom ROM, or be almost bulletproof on stock JB. I'm going to wait and see what the Moto X or the new Nexus phone offerings are like and go from there.

Agree...I'm very happy with stock JB on Bionic...no problems so far...performs well...battery ok, about the same as ICS ..no need to rush into new phone...certainly not another, albeit newer model, running JB...Bionic is just fine...thanks Moto!
