I ordered my Incredible 6 days ago (6/24/2010). After reading all of these posts, I guess I have to wait a good month before I can get it :-(
I called Verizon tonight just to see if there was any update at all or if it was still on track to be shipped on 7/22/2010. I started out the conversation as "Hello, I ordered a phone last week and would like to check on it's status." Without even asking what my name was or which phone I ordered he said "Is it an Incredible?". I guess they are taking a LOT of calls about this. From this thread, I would have to say that is the case.
He said there is no way to tell any status of my specific order at all until it is actually being shipped (i.e. there is a FedEx tracking number assigned). He said that there is the potential that it could even be delayed by 1 additional week which would really stink since I am currently with Cincinnati Bell and waiting for my Incredible to get here so I can cancel my CinBell contract. I actually have to pay $100 (for both my phone and my wife's) to get out of the equipment maintenance contract. But for the Incredible, it's worth it.
I asked the Verizon rep if the potential extra week was due to the screen swap (from AMOLED to SLED). He said he was not given any specific reason why (although not sure I believe that).
I have to get the phone by the 22nd since my monthly bill cycles on the 20th of each month. Apparently CinBell does not pro-rate their monthly charges. So if I go 1 day into the next month's bill, I have to pay for the whole month! Does anyone else have this experience too? This does not sound right.
So I am willing to cancel my CinBell before the Incredible ships and go without a cell phone for a few days. BUT, if there is going to be the potential extra week of waiting (and who knows if it will be even more than 1 week), I could be without a phone for a while. Yikes!
I'm not to the point of canceling my Incredible order yet but if it gets close to the July 22nd date and still no update, I might really have to do that and stick with CinBell a while longer.
I have not received any $25 "we're sorry it's taking so long" email like others have. But I might have to push for that, especially if they swap the screens out. I've been trying to find comparisons between AMOLED and SLED to see if there really is any big deal to it. All I have read so far is that the AMOLED has much richer colors but poor visibility in the sunlight. For the SLED, it's the same screen used on the iPad and has better visibility in the sunlight but colors are not as crisp. Some sites call it a "down grade" and others say they are pretty much identical.
Colors may not matter too much too me since I'm color blind but has anyone found a true authoritative comparison between the 2 screen technologies? Is it really a "down grade"?
I also read that it would be upgraded to Android 2.2 (Froyo). That would be cool.

I'm not sure how they could pull that off since Froyo has only been out since May 20th and I would hope they allow enough time for testing it throughly, but it looks like TMobile got their phone updates out so, might be possible.
