DROID RAZR M: 4.4.2 KitKat Update

My Razr m xt 907, rooted but locked bootloader, has been bricked during the KitKat update. It downloaded the update and appeared to start the update process than hung at the Motorola logo. I can get it to recovery but a cache partition wipe and a factory reset won't fix it. Now it just loops between the Motorola logo and the Android triangle screen. The guy at Verizon said he has heard that Motorola will send the rom file to get the phone functioning again. Has anyone had to request the rom file from Motorola before? I did find and try a couple Verizon stock rom files online but it aborts the update, if figure because the bootloader is locked.

Must still be settling. OS and system using extra battery.

Here's the pic, without the volume bar.

Actually in 4.4.2. Android OS will be your second biggest battery user. When I was using my Moto X I noticed the same thing. Turns out its a bug in 4.4.2. Hopefully the next iteration of Android fixes it.

Did you get this fixed? I ask cause the xt907 FXZ for KK has been leaked. I've updated my thread with instructions on how to get any version up to KK using it. If you're still stuck you could give it a try.

How To: XT907 Upgrade to KitKat OTA - VZW Droid Razr M General [XT907] - {Q&A, Discussion} - DroidRzr.com

(Yes, it works on locked devices as this is a signed FXZ...probably what they told the VZW guy they'd send him)

There used to be the ability to slide the sound on/off from the logon screen. That seems to be missing after KitKat. Does anyone know how to get that back so I don't have to login every time now to switch between silent and non-silent mode?

Hold power button on lock screen and you can switch volume profiles from there.

That does work.

Now, how can I get the lock screen shortcuts back?

same question as pizza_pablo. i used to switch sound on/off, as well as access texting or phone directly from the lock screen. now there is an extra step for each of these things ...

It is not possible. You are out of luck on that front.

Look at Settings/lock screen-security you can enable widgets on the lock screen it's not quite the same thing but it's something

Not even close, as far as I can tell, but thanks.

Re: RAZR M: KitKat Update

I think the new upgrade stinks. No colors in texting? All of the information icons are white. Have any of you kitkat genius' have a place to pick and choose color schemes? How do I dump this useless upgrade and go back to jelly bean. You couldn't have asked many people what they thought. There are complaints everywhere about this upgrade. So is your new nickname Microsoft? Nothing but a control device for google, really?

AFAIK, there's no going back.

Re: RAZR M: KitKat Update

So far, my phone is more responsive and feels quite a bit faster since the upgrade. I see no difference in WiFi - I am getting the same speed in various locations as before. I do feel like when it is having trouble finding a tower it is heating up and using a lot of battery. I notice this when I am driving and 1 day when I put it in a locker at the gym for about an hour. On a whole, battery life is similar to what I had before. Here is the battery screen right before I plugged it in last night.2014-05-21 02.52.17.png

The Andoid OS taking up so much battery is new, but some of the apps seem to be taking less than they did before. Maybe it is just being accounted differently - an app makes a call to an OS function so now it counts there rather than as the app?

You are stuck bud. No turning back now. You can always change up the look and feel of the homescreen, icons, messaging and phone apps. I am currently using Action Launcher with Tendere Icons. I always dislike the text beneath the icons on the stock homescreen.

No Android OS uses more battery on 4.4.2. noticed it on my Moto X as well. It's kind of a bug right now. Like how the Nexus 5 has a camera bug, similar to that. You are lucky though, I have seen some stories of people on 4.4.2. and Android OS completely drains their battery or makes the battery life much weaker. I am experiencing the same battery life as I did on Jelly Bean.

It's either going to be screen or Android OS, IMO. If you're not using the screen, I expect Android OS to take a higher percentage of the battery. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's draining the battery in an abnormal way.

Re: RAZR M: KitKat Update

There is DEFINITELY no going back on a locked device. Even unlocked devices have to use special care in downgrading. If you've taken the update on a locked device, you will brick trying to roll it back. And then you'll need to use the FXZ to fix it. It's not really enjoyable. And yes, I had someone test this so we can say as an absolute fact there is no downgrading.

Re: RAZR M: KitKat Update

Ok stupid question. How do I change the texting screen to anything other than all white? So ridiculous. Did they release a manual or someway to learn about the new system? Seems like they dump it on your phone and walk away, any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
