Droid X has officially launched!

firedude, you're not alone. I shared a similar experience in post #58, except they at least gave you a demo unit to fiddle with.

For some reason Verizon has been pretty stuck up and rude about the whole demos. Personally I think its horrible business for them not to have demos out.

I agree, whenever I've gone into the store to try and see a demo unit the reps gets all hot and bothered. Not cool.

Yeah, I understand many people think -- "Why should they display something they cannot sale?"
I answer that with -- Because people like me would like some screen time before going to a store on release day holding up sales clerks and others who may be waiting behind me.
I cannot buy one without a little screen time. Just makes sense to me that a Demo could have been out at least a couple of days early.

Not "Demo", Dummy. But it did give a good idea of size and weight which is a big concern for many, so it wasn't a complete wasted trip.

Yeah man I can totally understand why you are upset about your visit to your local Verizon store. That's not cool at all and I have actually had situations like that myself. If they expect people to make a commitment to a phone for atleast one year (most of us for two years) we have every right to look at the phone and play with it BEFORE release date when we purchase it. It's not going to kill them to let someone take a peak at a demo device. This just aggravates me badly.

Maybe they just figure if its that important to you, you will play with it on or after release day and then make a decision.

...you don't get to test drive cars before they are released. ;)

instant gratification techies..every single one of us!! lol

Maybe all we need to do is bust out our Jedi mind tricks, it's not like he was talking to a manager.

"I think you need to show me your Droid X demo now."

'I think I need to show you our Droid X demo now.'

Waves hand.

"I feel the presence of a surprise 50% discount."

'Wha-choo talkin about Willis!"

Gimme back our Demo. Your mind tricks stepped over the line.

I'm not sure if Verizon left it up to the store managers.. Or that the stores that have demo's are sticking there necks out.

But I called my local store and they too seemed annoyed with me asking if they had demo's. I called the store in the next town over and they said they had them.. I kinda paused and said... that you can touch.. and hold? lol I was surprised. I went to that store and that manager was happy as hell to talk to me about the phone. (even tho i knew more than him) he said they had 2 or 3 working demo's floating around that they are just keeping behind the counter. not out on display. I may go to that store to buy my phone instead :-p

I wonder if the ones that don't have it out don't have it out simply to avoid the tire kickers from stopping in to look at it that have no desire to come to Verizon.

You know we are all guilty of stopping to look at something just for ****s and giggles.

Still irritating none the less

Just like GTvert hinted at here, just vote with your dollar if possible. If one manager treats you nice and shows you a phone after another is a jerk to you, buy from the nice guy's store instead, he deserves the business.

It's not a viable option for everyone, but I found a local store that has employees I have started to really like because of their honesty and willingness to help, that's why I'm going there Thursday. So if you don't like how a certain store treats you, post where it is, and offer an alternative place to buy instead.

I was talking to my local store today to see when they would call be about coming in to get my DX, and the girl told me "we have a live unit on display if you want to come see it." I was shocked. On friday, they had a unit in the store but it was with a regional manager and you could see it for a bit, but it was certainly not on display "out in the open."

I really wish this thread wasn't a sticky, because it MAKES me remember that I have to wait that long. Then again, I can't forget about it.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who is ridiculously excited about this phone. Also, to the Blackberry battery pullers, even on my 9650 I have the same problem, so I can't wait until the day it's not going to be a problem

battery pulls...... isn't it sad that us Blackberry users have resolved to thinking that pulling the battery is a "normal" thing to do on a smart phone? I am looking forward to not ever having to open the battery door any on another smartphone!

AMEN!!!!!!

Don't get me started about the crap RIM has been passing as phones for the past couple of years. My 4 Tours and 2 Bolds gave me nothing but problems.

Can't wait for the X!!

I got to grope a dummy droid X today... not too big.
I've been fiddling with an Sprint Evo AND Verizon D-Incredible for 2 weeks now.... putting them through there paces.

I found the Dinc's screen a little small for my 47 Y.O. eyes, and it seems to run a bar or two less signal than my 3 1/2 year old LG5300, it also has a slight red/pink or warm cast to the screen.

Initially I thought the Evo too big... but shortly found it to be perfect.... except it was on Sprint and the network inconsistencies as compared to Verizon were unacceptable for business/traveling throughout Idaho and Oregon. Bluetooth did not sound as well on my Evo as the Incredible.

I went into my Best Buy where I got both of them, and was greeted by name (holy cow, they knew my name!). I told them about my experience with both phones and how I wished there was a BIG phone with excellent blue tooth call quality on Verizon. He told me that was the Droid X. I promptly did a pre-order. (that was last week).

Today after playing around with the dummy Dx, he assured me I'll have one on Thursday. woot!

I hope it's all that I hope it is... excellent call quality, big beautiful screen, and while I've read sad things about the encrypted boot loader....I hope they work around it so I can load custom roms...etc.

GL everyone.

I went through two Tours and (somehow) FOUR 9650's. They kept sending me broken ones, it was ridiculous. I run 6.0 hybrids right now, and they're actually quite nice, but come on: the browser on the Android OS is ridiculously good.

Omg, only 1 more day.. good thing I'll be asleep for most of it, just heading to bed right about now, so 4:10ish AM my time today I goto bed, and hopefully don't wake up until like noon..

ahhh.........this time tomorrow, I'll be eating breakfast and getting ready to drive to VZW for my Droid X. I was told yesterday that I was one of the first 20 people on the DX list at my local VZW sotre, and I am guaranteed a phone!

Ill be ordering online at 11 my time tonight.

I've called verizon the last 2 days and switched around my online account to become the account owner so I can order online and skip the mail in rebate.

And I sold my incredible for 375
