EDGE/GPRS Network speed SLOW!!!

Greetings all! New owner first time forum poster here. I recently received my free refurbished Samsung Captivate from ATT. I have blazing fast WiFi at home and work. However, the EDGE/GPRS coverage is lowly and extremely slow to run any widgets or apps on.

Do any of you forum visitors have a guide or know of any apps that can 'tune' this phone for better EDGE/GPRS network access/speeds? ATT advertises typical speeds of 75 to 135 kbs on EDGE network. Is there a speedtest app to see what I'm getting for xfer speeds?

Problem solved: returned refurbished Captivate and cancelled service with ATT. Bought new mesmerize from local US Cellular store. Blazing fast 3G network no problems running anything.
