Epic Versus Evo

Well for me, I'm not a fan of physical landscape keyboards. They are just uncomfortable to me so I don't need a phone with one. I have the evo and absolutely love it. My partner wants an epic because he hates on screen keyboards. He has the moment right now and loves that phone. Other than Angry Birds coming to android, I highly doubt that I'll be playing games on my phone. But I will admit, I do wish my evo had that screen. Those super amoled screens are nothing short of amazing

Epic is superior in almost every way to me.

The keyboard.
Samsungs integration with their TV's is awesome.
GPU/CPU takes a dump on the Snapdragon
Screen is awesome.
Media Hub

Evo's is a tiny bit thinner / Slab style phone
Cameras are better on the Evo - Although its still a phone camera and debatable at that.
Kickstand?

If your gonna keep a phone for a year, get the one with horsepower!

JMO :)

Don't knock the kickstand. It's a lot more useful than you'd think. I use mine all the time. As stupid as it sounds, it's one of the features I'd have a hard time giving up.

I've seen a couple of reports that the Epic battery life is worse than the EVO. But I'm taking that with a grain of salt... Sometimes the battery needs to run through a couple of cycles before battery life can be established.... (I'm just hoping!)
Where are you seeing this?
Every review says Epic has better battery life.

I've been debating more recently in my mind if I want the physical keyboard or not. I don't think I'll mind it, but I can't really know until I play with the real thing at the store.

Probably will still get it.

I always wondered why the band "Faith No More" named that song "Epic"... finally we know!

"Can you feel it ,see it, hear it today?
If you can't, then it doesn't matter anyway
You will never understand it 'cause it happens too fast
And it feels so good, it's like walking on glass
It's so cool, it's so hip, it's alright
It's so groovy, it's outta sight
You can touch it, smell it, taste it so sweet
But it makes no difference 'cause it knocks you off your feet
You want it all but you can't have it
It's cryin', bleedin', lying on the floor
So you lay down on it and you do it some more
You've got to share it, so you dare it
Then you bare it and you tear it
You want it all but you can't have it
It's in your face but you can't grab it
It's alive, afraid, a lie, a sin
It's magit, it's tragic, it's a loss, it's a win
It's dark, it's moist, it's a bitter pain
It's sad it happened and it's a shame
You want it all but you can't have it
It's in your face but you can't grab it
What is it?
It's it
What is it?..."

So clear now!

I have to have a BlackBerry for work (rocking a Tour), but I have serious android envy. I've decided to indulge myself and add a line for personal use so I can get an Android 4g phone, and am undecided between the EVO and Epic. I like the simplicity, big screen, HTC quality and developer/hacker support with the EVO; but I also like the AMOLED screen and 6-axis gyro of the Epic. So - I will wait until I can get hands-on with both and let my gut reaction make the decision. Unless, of course, I win a free Epic! ;)

From what I've seen, the battery life between the two is comparable, and within any reasonable margin of error.

Speaking of battery power, we got 3 hours and 43 minutes of use from 97 percent power to shutdown with the phone in 4G hotspot mode while occasionally interacting with the handset, continuously streaming internet radio, and doing... well, you know, other "internet things" on our connected laptop. That bests the EVO by a few minutes, but we'd argue that it's within the margin of error -- especially since 4G battery life seems to be affected drastically by city and signal strength...

Im curious to see how the battery life is compared to the evo after a full day of heavy use. If the Epic is double or more, I may switch.

I am growing very tired of my Hero, and am waiting for my upgrade in November. I would be happy with either the Evo or Epic, and am thinking of trying the Epic first, and then return it within 30 days to try the Evo. I don't really need a keyboard, but if push comes to shove, and there are still no Evos to buy anywhere, I will go with the Epic!

Android FTW!

I think the extra screen area on my Evo would be hard to give up, and the kickstand too. Also, I've grown so used to Sense that I keep trying to make "non-Sense" phones act the same way.

Neither one of them will last you long on 4G if you leave it on, so it's kind of pointless to compare.

I have been a loyal sprint customer for 11 years now, and even though I do not live in a "4G" supported area, the time will come that it will be available. I remember how excited I was to see EVDO Rev. A come to my area. I believe that Sprint is investing in technology, and investing customer support the right way, and we see a company that has the potential to participate in the competition that Big Red and Big Blue have started. Epic or Evo, doesn't matter. It's the start of big things for Sprint.

My wife has an Evo, she had a BB. We both love keyboards, but with swype, we are happy without. On the other hand I would love to compare my typing speed between the two. I am seriously thinking of doing the 30 day free return test on the epic next week when my once a year upgrade is available. Or I could just win one somewhere, now if I could only figure out where.

Re: So EVO or Epic???

Gonna have to say the epic. Was playing with a fascinate the other day and one thing that I could just notice is that beautiful screen. Samsung makes screens. And that one just kills the evo. Not to mention the gyroscope. Presence of the physical keyboard and a hummingbird processor. Epic all day.

the evo lets you turn the brightness way way down, where as at least on the vibrant, the minimum brightness is still very bright, that probably makes a big difference in terms of battery life...

What's Better is generally a more subjective thing in my opinion. It comes down to what's more important to you. Whichever device has what you want in it should make it the better one to you.

Hit the nail on the head.

If I didn't know ANYTHING else about the Epic, the keyboard would still have me.

I came from a phone with a hard-keyboard, and since I've had my Evo I've made more mistakes on the touch-version than anything else.

Auto-Complete is helpful, but not great. In fact, I've got it turned off right now because IT makes more mistakes then I do, lol!

Ug. Such a hard choice... i've never had a landscape slider... I'm definitley a power texter/emailer....

The EVO keyboard isnt that bad... especuially after using Better Keyboard... But could I be lightning fast with the EPIC????

So many choices...
