Essential Order and Shipping Thread

I just called Samsung to confirm this promotion. Its deceitful at best and downright dishonest at worst.

You'll receive "up to" $425 for that iPhone 5. But the amount you actually receive wont be confirmed until their warehouse verifies the device being traded in. I was about to snag a G4 from Swappa and do the same - but sounds like I'd eventually be screwed. Add in the fact that they wont charge you back after "evaluating" until you're outside of the return window.

All of this as a way to "treat" previous owners of the Note 7.
I'll take that risk and if they do that I'll dispute the charge with Amex. They did similar stunt with some of the S8 trade in offers and eventually had to bend down after people starting disputing the charge.

It seems to me that they will time the release of the phones at the same time their partners will. Depending on which version of "fact" you follow, that makes it 8/28, 8/29, 8/31 or 9/1.

So in that perfect social monocracy, nobody gets to benefit from putting forth additional effort.

Not to put too fine a point on this but do you really think any one of us ( or all combined) is/are more important than Best Buy or Sprint.

Have you ever owned a curved screen? I can’t fit the life of me understand why people are so against them. You hardly notice them after owning a device with curves. I actually really like them due to appearance of no bezels and it just looks good. Only downfall is harder to get screen protectors. I think the Note 8 looks awesome but Samsung needs to learn to optimize ttheir software instead of just getting around poor performance with raw performance.
Actually yes I had the s8 and s8 plus, note 7, s7 edge. I've had my share. Can't stand them after a short time.

I will probably end up returning the essential phone as well unless it blows me away. From all that I have heard the software is still a work in progress. I also wished they did what Oneplus did and add options to customize the UI.

The company is a complete unknown and could go belly up by next year.

Not to mention camera reviews have been horrid, battery has been mediocre at best and has no features like iris scanner, waterproofing, sd card, wireless charging, Samsung pay, etc.....

I'm probably going to do the same thing. As much as I'm not sure about curved screens, I think I'm going for a Note 8. My Notes, aside from the 7, have been some of my favorite phones of all time. And I really want a good screen, good performance, and a great camera. Which is probably what you get from the Note 8.

I am not a fan of Samsung but you know you are going to get a great display and one of the best if not the best camera experiences

Honest question: Why would anyone buy this phone if they wanted specs that clearly aren't included? It's not like Essential blindly asked for $699 upfront, didn't announce any specs and ultimately delivered a complete surprise. We've known the full specs for three months.

The camera I can understand, and it does look like it might be disappointing, but if the only issue is the camera app itself then it should improve with time. In the meantime there are about a dozen alternatives available including sideloading the Pixel camera or something widely available like Open Camera. Perhaps Essential should collaborate with the Open Camera developer instead of starting from scratch.

IP rating I can also understand since it still sounds like a possibility, albeit remote. But, it wasn't like they listed it and removed it at the last minute. It was never an official spec.
