Re: Good? Bad? Something in between? How is the Pixel working out so far?

What is the Pixel?

It is either a too-expensive non Nexus ******* son of an iPhone, or the second coming of Android and the start of the Google revolution. It's up to you to decide!

Anyone else feeling frustration with the fingerprint scanner location? I'm used to being able to leave my phone in the table next to me during meetings & quickly check msgs/respond discreetly without picking up the phone. Any suggestions other than keeping it unlocked? That's not an option with my company's security policy.

What is the best feature of the Pixel / Pixel so far in everyone's use that would be different from Note 7, iPhone 7, LG v20? I'm due to get a V20 when the store gets in later this week, but .... !?

I have to go back and read a lot of other posts on previous pages, but I have to say @thawkth nailed it!

I'm also a long time Android user and have had every Google/Nexus phone. This is the best one by far.

I would love to try this phone! People are whining that it is not waterproof, but, like they said : they just ran out of time.
On the other ✋, for that kinda money...

What is the best feature of the Pixel

For me (as with the Nexus phones), it's Google's commitment to keep it updated. It is also that I can always count on it to play nice with things like Wear and Android Auto. Skinned phones can sometimes have issues that are seldom fixed and can be frustrating.

The overall smoothness & design. Doesn't feel like a heap of features forced together, with varying degrees of success (cough...note7).

One thing I love about the idea of the Pixel that I haven't seen anyone really call out for what it truly means is that of the unlimited (and somewhat automatic) backup of original quality pics and video. The horror stories I've heard from way too many people who never backed up their pics or videos, including of their infant/toddler children that got lost forever due to phone or memory card issues is eye popping. They take all these photos and videos of life's precious moments and then just assume they will be there forever. And most of what I see people saying is more about the idea of freeing up space on the "limited" 32GB model. But to me, it's an awesome piece of mind that the stuff I want to keep is going to be backed up even before I may do that manually.

I do not why, but despite of having the S7 Edge, I want this phone very badly... However, there is no news about the launch date in Spain, and not even any news about the Google Assistant speaking and understanding spanish.

So I am quite sad about it...

If anybody knows please tell me.

Very jealous of all you that have it.

Have fun with it.

I just got mine today but the more I use the more I love it. It's really fast, smooth, and solidly built. I will put it to the test the next few days .

Absolutely love it.

Yeah it's Android's iPhone and I couldn't be happier.

I feel that this is the only Android phone on the market that's worth consideration. And I understand people may take offence to that, but here's my reasoning:

- Fastest updates and fastest security updates. No other OEM will be able to match Google here. I'm tired of being a second class citizen if I choose to buy another OEM's phone. This is the only phone where I'm confident that I'll get the latest Android updates. I can't say the same for other phones.

- User experience imo is hands down the best I've ever used (and this is coming off the Note 7 and HTC 10). Google put the effort into making sure their UI is extremely fast and smooth. They focused on touch response and things like that, many OEM's wouldn't bother putting time and money into.

- Unlimited Google Photos storage. A pretty big win for me. I can take all the photos and videos I want and not have to choose the high quality option and not degrade the quality. Don't know if this will roll out to other phones, but it's here in the Pixel and I'm really happy about it.

Aside from that stuff, I'm getting all the other usual great things like superb camera, great battery life etc.

So would I trade that stuff for another Android phone that, on paper, is supposed to be faster/better? No I wouldn't. Simply because there are certain things I'm confident other companies can't match and most of all, I trust Google above all other OEM's in their direction and support for their phones.

I'm so impressed with this phone that I'm not interested in the Galaxy S8, HTC 11, LG G6 etc. The next phone in my sights is the Pixel 2.
That's awesome! My black 32gb Pixel XL will be here this week!

I went Saturday to Verizon and didn't think twice. Paid off the Galaxy s6 and got black Pixel. Love it!

Yup.

On the subject of future proof, In the Android world the Pixel is the only phone that is future proof, because nothing else available is even current "proof"

Axon claims the 7 plus is, but I've heard differently. Other than that, no other phone is capable of running Daydream or having full UI hardware acceleration. If a brand new phone isn't capable of running Android today, how is it going to fare next Summer when the new features are announced?
That's my concern.

I just hope some others buck it up with security patches at the very least.

Samsung and LG were advised not to use the 820 in the Note 7 and V20 if they wanted to take advantage of new GPU accelerated stuff. All OEMs were. Only ASUS listened lol.
Oh Qualcomm.

Identical chipset with a similar CPU and GPU but let's give the newer one the bells and whistles even though the 820 should be capable of the same (in theory at least).

I'm getting 20 hours battery life with 6-1/2 hours screen on time. As good as any phone I've had. Including iPhone 7 plus
